Age and value of Rogers kit

Loading...

I bought my Rogers kit from the original owner in Kansas City in June 1977. Still my only acoustic kit which I play semi-regularly. Curious if I am pegging the age correctly and also what current value might be. Description follows (and I realize serial #'s might not mean much):

All drums still have paper labels affixed inside shell

Dyna Sonic metal snare serial # 10425 - 5.5" x 14" I think - has the swiv-o-matic throw-off. Snare wires are new - not original.

Rogers Hi-hat stand as well as cymbal arm to place on mount on kick drum (held splash cymbal) - also have all original swiv-o-matic hardware, hex legs for floor toms, etc.

The rest of the drums are Holiday Model - Blue Sparkle color wrap

Two 12? toms (#10236 Cleveland label; #12437 Fullerton label)

16? floor tom #62233 Dayton label

14? floor tom #62414 Dayton label

22? bass drum (roughly 16? deep) #99542 Dayton label - has the splash cymbal arm mount as well as two tom mounts. I re-painted the wood rims black a few years back (they were always black but wanted to freshen them) - still has original T-handle tension rods.

I would say condition is good to excellent but I am no expert. One of the 12" toms has a hazy 2" spot on the shell wrap - almost like a light scuff - but other than that all drums are really nice and of course always climate controlled (actually have mounted on modern hardware now using rims-type mounts to make set-up a bit more practical the rare times I play out with it).

The Camco kick pedal I originally bought with the kit has long since expired, as has the original throne. Still have the original Zildjian ride, crash, splash, and hi-hat cymbals too, although the crash has a knick on the outer edge.

Anyway, always curious if I estimate the age right and what the going value is (in terms of age I have assumed mid-1969 or a bit earlier).

Thanks for help!

If the 14x14 is close to mint perfect....or even 8/10 grade........ 800-1200.00 for it ........alone.

The Dynasonic would be 1967, with 7 etched lines around the drum at the center, really good shape with the snare frame, 350-550.

I think maybe you are looking at a total easy value of 2000.00, if sold together. But its hard to say really. They could go higher.

The drums........between 66-67, the fullerton, 68-69, I think there are people who can be more exact as to the dating.

You have a nice set of drums. Congrats.

I agree with Ploughman, the 14" floor tom in blue sparkle will bring $800 and up. Sounds like you have a very valuable set. Pics would be great.

Thanks guys very much for the response! I will try and post pics although I am not very good at it. Also have a student edition Slinglerland snare (silver sparkle) with stand and original case that I bought as a 4th grader in 1974 - will post a pic of it too.

unfortunately the file size of my pics are too large and I am too much of a dummy to know how to compress. If anyone can tell me I am all ears! thanks

Use MS Paint program. Open the file and use menu . Resize until you get a size that works. Save the file in JPG instead of BMP.

It's really that easy.

thanks for the help! Attached a pic of my Rogers kit as described in this post with original Zildjian cymbals. You can also see my student edition Slinglerland snare (silver sparkle) that I bought new in about 1974

attached some more pics of individual drums (metal Dynasonic, toms (with RIMS-type mounts attached as that is how I use them now), 14" floor tom, 16" floor tom, and bass drum showing two tom mounts and splash cymbal mount). I still have and use the original black vinyl soft cases for all drums, although the 14" floor tom came with a tan canvas cloth soft case which tells me it might have been added after original kit was purchased. Still have (but no longer use) the groovy Zildjian burlap sack that I used to use to carry my cymbals around in too. The fun part of all of this is a couple of other drummers that I share drumming duties with in a band all have their own first drum kits that they still use - a vintage Sonor kit and an old Zickos kit. The Zickos has seen better days but the Sonor is in great shape and fun to play.

Hey Ken

I posted on your gallery shot of the "Student Model"

If it has 8 lugs it is not a Student Model, but a Hollywood Ace.

Looks like a rapid thrown also??

Shell??

Don't take that to school!!

Hard to tell from the photo if it is a 6 or 8 lugger.

whoops - as you can see I know even less about my Slingerland. It is indeed 8 lugs. By rapid thrown do you mean the strainer throw-off? Would it help if I took some more photos to post tomorrow or is there something I should look for? Thanks very much for helping me ID David! (and my son will have to be happy with his practice pad until we get him his own - luckily this drum has not left my house in decades)
