Advice on selling '59 Slingys

Loading...

I've got a 1959 Slingerland kit - gold sparkle - but no bass drum. I have the 14" snare with the clamshell strainer, 12" tom and 16" floor. The drums are in very good shape. I purchased a 1961 Slingy bass (Champagne Sparkle) and recovered it. However, the wrap doesn't match the kit. The company rep. and I tried very hard to match it but an epic fail. With all this being said, should I try to sell each of the toms, bass and snare seperately? or should I try to sell the snare and 2 toms as a set and sell the bass seperate? I can't afford to spend any more on this set and I'd really like to move it in the next couple of weeks. I've seen this snare for sale online as high as $1,000 but I've got about $1000 tied up in the entire kit. I recovered an old 14" Whitehall (it has matching lug casings) to go with the kit that I'd throw in.

I've been very impressed with the knowledge of the posters on this site and I feel comfortable following the advice of the general concensus. I don't have any pics posted online but I can email them to anyone who wishes to help. Thanks for your help and God Bless!

Might I suggest attaching pictures to a post in this forum?

Hi,

Thats a cool kit. If only it was in WMP I would take that floor tom off your hands :).

Anyway, my guess is that you could probably get more money if you sold all the drums separately. Normally, I would be against separating a complete kit, but since the bass and one floor tom are orphans and mis-matched, I might not feel as bad here. Curious what others think.

Good luck selling!

I would agree with that in this case for sure.

That snare is sweet too!

Thanks for the info. Do you have any suggestions on the best place to try to sell these? eBay of course but thought someone may know some other sites. Yeah, I really like the snare. I tuned it up and MAN its sweet. I've seen that snare listed on some vintage sites for $600 - $1,000 but I'm sure those are in mint condition. Mine is in really good shape - no cracking or fading on the wrap. Thanks again guys!

So keep the snare and peddle the rest. It's a known fact that mis-matched snares sound much better than matching ones...

I second keeping that snare. I've got a '57 in good condition and it sings! Don't let it go!

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the input. I'm just in a situation where I need to unload a few things. I've built an electronic kit (for quiet practice and studio work) and need to buy a sound module. But you guys are right, that snare is mighty sweet!

I'd still like a shot at the MIJ 14". Don't know that I can recoup your cost for you though...it's a 6 ply shell.
