A Star is Born...again

Loading...

Here is a pic of the 69 guacamole strata. It is such a time capsule, it even has a pillow in the bass that looks like it has been there since the 70's. Now that most of the feeling in my hands has returned after the polishing of the Star kit, I will give it a good cleaning and get some new heads on it. Do you guys think I should repaint the hoops? They are not chewed up, just missing paint in some areas. I have read some of the excellent tips here on the VDF on how to do it, I just don't want to be that guy on Antiques Roadshow that polished the patina off his Tiffany lamp and killed it's value.

I had to thank Ralf from Germany for his help with the Star kit and I have to thank Ralph from Columbus Ohio for becoming a guitarist. He cared about his Christmas present from 1969 enough to keep it nice, but not so much that he couldn't let it go. Thanks Ralph!!!!!!!

I'm a sucker for strata wraps and vintage Ludwigs. You even got the original stands! Standard bass drum pedal as well? Really nice drums - enjoy them!

Doug,

Ralph assured me that the bass drum pedal was "somewhere", and he would send it if he found it. I bought one on Reverb for $50 in the mean time.

Oddball,

Ralph said the Avedis Zildjian cymbals have been with the kit since he got it in 69. The hats are big (15 inches) and have a stamp that appears to be from the 60's, but the stamp on the 18 inch ride has the big hollow block letters which may date it to the 50's I think. Regardless, they sound creamy.
