So after all this is it Lud or brass?

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

The EQ woke me the other night. It was a pretty decent shake even here. I'll be checking my insurances this week as a result. So it turns out there's at least one good reason to live in Auckland:D (I'm an ex-Aucklander BTW)

Only if you prefer to live in a field of volcanoes. Mind Blowi

Hey, first of all I hope all is well down in AU!

the Snare:

Yes, the strainer is the 2-hole Blackface, Back Plate and screws are not original though I guess (Did they originally come with backplates?)

The Snarebeds are totally "regular", pretty wide, but even (tough to photograph, but you get the picture). nothing crimped or so like the early 60s COBs.

Also, it follows another detail of the Black Beauties from this period. Even though they were said to be brass shells, the 70's models (at least the earliest ones) do not have the b stamp at the muffler. I did not see one on yours either. Would make sense.

Exactly, there's no B stamp. My 1978 BB doesn't have one either.

What's the serial number on your 78? I've got an early one that I have been trying to put a date on.

I have a 5" and a 6,5" BB which I both believe to be from 1978.

The serials are:

14 x 5 BB: 1711947

14 x 6,5 BB: 1878862

I also have 14x6,5 Ludaloy Supra with the Serial 1745630 that should be from 1978 as well.

Thanks for the info Michael. I've got a 5" that is 1587276. I would guess that it's a 77 then. Not the best pic in the world.

These are great drums, no matter what the pic looks like ;-)

I have 2-3 drums with a 15***** serial, and always dated them to 1977, I guess that should be alright.

I attached two pics of my two 1978 BBs :-) I also have two more (hammered from the 90s) all of them great drums!
