If it's brass or bronze, by all means yes.

Thanks for the bare shell weight. The other one I've got on file is 1973g. A 3g difference is well within the measurement error of most people's scales (including mine).
I see you mention 1979 in the title. We might be able to shed a bit more light on that once we have a look at the pictures, know the serial number, etc. None of the online serial number guides are up to date given the vast improvement Rick Gier has brought to the field. So if you got 1979 from the online guides or just from the seller we might have a better estimate for you.
As to expected price, I haven't got any price data on what 6.5" 70s supras are going for these days, but Mike should have a pretty good idea. We do hear complaints from sellers that the market has dropped from where it was at a few years back. But I can tell you that a Brass Shelled one is going to be worth much more. Rare and collectable brings the big dollars.
Comparing the COB 5" Supra at the $500-$800 expected price range with the Aluminum 5" Supra at $180-$300 gives one indication of relative value. But a 70s 6.5" in brass? A whole different animal.
Not much to compare to price wise though. If it were a 6.5" pointy badge Ludalloy and very nice, they sell in the 550-650 range at times. A 5" 70's Black beauty recently sold for 2000. So somewhere in between. The 5" 70's brass cut badge models usually float around the 500 mark for some reason.

There's a video by Forum member Bonzoleum which covers the brass vs ludalloy shell thing pretty well. Can't find the link though, but well worth a look. There's probably a link to it somewhere here.:2Cents:
Thanks Andrew. I didn't realize you had a 6.5" Supra. So I presume that's an Aluminum (or Aluminium since we're Kiwis) shell?
Did you feel the earthquake down your way? I was completely unaware of it until I turned on Morning Report around 6:55 and it wasn't the usual business report. Definitely not business as usual.
Hey guys, thanks for all the input so far!
I attached some pictures now... I did weigh the shell again, actually it is 1968g :-) still in range i guess...
The red in the pics I guess is some leftover from chromeplating process... (??)
The Serial on the B/O Badge is 1986368, so that should make it a 1979 snare.

yes, it's aluminium Steve. It was a $50 ebay special. The hoops were missing so the extra weight might be in the aftermarket TF ones I fitted possibly.
The EQ woke me the other night. It was a pretty decent shake even here. I'll be checking my insurances this week as a result.
So it turns out there's at least one good reason to live in Auckland:D (I'm an ex-Aucklander BTW)
From Rick Gier's work your serial maps to the date range 1978-1982 (1880000-2300000). Your number is most likely 1979 if we allocate the serial number range across the years 1978-1982 in even lots. But serial numbers don't increment nicely month to month, and from one day (December 31st) to the next it's a whole new year! So there is a residual probability it could be from the tail end of 1978. That's why I like to give years as 1979±1 just to show we're not 100% certain.
That badge is the BO3 badge which is period correct. The tone control is Large Knob which is period correct. The throw off (which you didn't give us a picture of) is most likely P-85 Black Face 2 hole. It might be the 12 hole version and it would be good to know that because it would be new info to have a Black Face 12 hole in that serial number range.
What would also be interesting is to see what the snare beds look like.
