Very nice! I love the wrap. The snare is a generic Asian. They sell under the same stencil rules of the 60s, under about 50 "brand" names today, all the same and most of these sound mediocre. Not at all like a Leedy or Ludwig.

This link shows just one of those stencil names, and I think First Act uses this shell as does Hasting's Book Stores, they sell a student kit like this. Many retailers use this drum in many student sets today.

Thanks Fishwaltz - he's an 8 year old boy so there's every chance he'll lose interest in no time. But for now he's a very happy chap.

Jonni - Supraphonic was referring to the snare that originally came with this kit (see page 1 of this thread) that we're pretty sure is British 1930's. You're right of course, the snare currently with the kit is a cheap stencil. This one came with one of my old Pearl kits. They don't sound brilliant but with a half decent head it works well for the kid.

I see that. It is indeed a nice score. As for the one you are giving the kids-try a Fyberskin on it, it will take the edge off it and it will really give the kid an ear for a good sounding snare. Not a lot of money to really tame a COS entry level snare.
