70's Slingerland hardware help Last viewed: 2 hours ago

Loading...

I recently picked up a set of Slingerlands from the 70's (?).

I'd like to identify them. Black & brass Niles badge, Ser.#122xxx.

Stick-saver rims. All lugs are OK (some of the small mounting screws keep turning). BD spur mount wing nut holes are stripped out.

22x14 BD holes for 4 spur mounts (only 3 mounts, no spurs)

14x10 TT

13x10 TT

16x16 FT

18x16FT

Look to be 3-ply stained mahogany. Maple rings.

Unfinished mahogany interiors, M stencil.

Someone put a Rodgers tom mount on the BD, and Rodgers mounts on the toms.

I would like to restore the orig bass & tom hardware. Can anyone tell me what I need?

Those are maple with a mahogany stain, maple interiors. You would need the setomatic tom mounts, maybe the "super" setomatic, not sure. Nice drums.

Thanks for the answer.

What's the difference between the seto, and the super seto?

Do they both have the ball and socket joint?

If you want period correct, you don't want the super set-o-matic they weren't out until black and silver badges. The super had a "t" coming out of the bass drum on a ball and swivel and two single set-o-matics went into that.

Your badges are Black/Silver, not Black/Brass. The SN's should date the kit to about 1973-74. The Super Setomatic didn't come out until around 1978. "Normal" double-tom Setomatic mounts were usually mounted in the middle of the bass drum, but your original holes appear to be at the back, is that correct? The Super Setomatic bass drum plate was mounted towards the front. Hope this helps.

They look silver in the photo, but they are definitely brass colored.

The original holes are near the back

So it looks like I'm looking for the Set-O-Matic double tom holder.

That has the 4 bolt baseplate & wingnut, notched shaft, single ball and socket with two arms, correct?

The two arms I've seen in pictures look short and small diameters.

The holes in the tom holders look larger than those shafts. Am I missing something?

Hi -If you are serious about putting the set-o-matic back, first start looking for the mounting plate. If you are not worried about the collector value and want to play your drums ,think about leaving the Rogers mount on there.(I know some collectors would not like this . ) However someone else has already drilled the holes for the Rogers mount and you would have to repair /patch them.Just something to think about.

And the Rogers mounts are much more adjustable than the set-o-matic.

Hi-- The short arms on the set-o-matic fit right into the Slingerland parts that mount on the toms.

Am I that color blind!! If they are truly Black/Brass, they would be from about 1981-86. There are no Black/Brass badges with that design in the 70's. Can you post a more clear picture of the badge?

My main gripe about the Rodgers mounts (besides being a towering mess of hardware) is that they are secured to the BD with 2 bolts, in line with the axis of the BD and rock left and right. They need a bigger footprint on the BD shell.

I suppose I could make a bigger plate for the inside of the shell and bolt thru that.

I didn't pay a lot for the drums and have spent a good couple of days taking everything apart, cleaning and re-assembling, and the Set O Matic mount surely looks a lot better that the Rodgers.
