Hey thanks for taking the time to go back and revisit the thread. And thank you the nice comment as well, glad you followed along.
Here is the best part of this restoration project. The color, it was matched to a Gretsch kit on ebay. Actually holding up experimental color samples that I made to the computer screen to the floor tom pic that you see below. All in all the finish came out good enough for me. That was the fun part of the job.

If you ever go to sell that set everyone is going to think its a cortex until they see it in person. Nice nice nice!

Slightly off topic here, but, is there a way to apply a faded stain? You know, where the stain would be deepest in the middle of the shell and gradually fade towards the bearing edges...
I don`t know if this has been tried before, but, if it can be done, I`m sure you are the man that could do it...

I don't know about doing a fade with stain but it can be done with shading additive mixed into the clear lacquer. Go back a few pages in this thread and see that I made an attempt to do that but it did not go very well and chickened out. So yes fade can be done but I am not the man for it.

Jeff perfect work on the color match. Not easy to do. Love the cat in the picture. Cat's love getting in drum pictures for some reason. We have one cat that hangs in the room when I play even. The rest all scatter. :D
