I can hear what sounds like the 12 choking in the second video. The micing and mix the first video could compensate for the mounts impact.

You can hear the difference best if you compare one to an identical drum without the huge hole and resonance absorbing ball mount.

I didn't think there'd be any difference either, until I did so. That's why I did what I did.

Well of course virgin drums are preferable, but what I'm saying is the dramatic tone loss isn't as prevalent as feared. That tom in the second vid still has the gretschy bing sound, not a flat blat. Actually that kit sounds great to my ears.

Well if SSB kits are less desireable, then the drop G sets I guess are even worse. Ha!
