70s Gretsch drum thoughts

Loading...

There is a guy selling a stop sign kit, and am discussing a possible deal. What are your thoughts on these drums in general? I know they tend to be of less value than RB era. But would be using these to play. This is the 22, 12, 13, 16 combo. Perhaps my only concern is the Tom mount. Otherwise they seem like fine drums.

I've had my mid-70's kit since '78; bought them used; three years old. I love them. Jasper 6-ply (thin), die-cast rims, beautiful walnut finish. I've gigged them without cases (carefully and no helpers, please) and they still look and sound awesome. Never, ever had any issues with the Monster Double Tom mounts, or any other hardware. Currently, using one up (13") with a RIMS mount, for ergonomics (pic is before RIMS).

What finish? What tom mount ? Good luck with your deal.

Black nitron, which I love actually. I'm not familiar with the hardware but it was two separate Tom arms coming up on the bass drum Tom mount.

Those Tom mounts you are talking about are notorious, they have a huge internal omni ball type thing. Has a huge cutout in the shell.
