63 Rootbeer Swirl Yamahas

I've decided to buy them, made a deal and will pick them up this weekend. I'm told the bearing edge on the exposed side of the bass drum will bear a re-cut. Problem for me is that these old kits usually have the vintage round-over. I'm only set up to cut a double 45. Will it hurt the value for me to re-cut to a modern edge style?

Use 150, then 220 grit and re-do the edges by hand. You'll get much better results. If there is damage, I usually use Plastic Wood to fill them, wait a day then carefully sand them back to round-over.

haven't examined it yet, but I was thinking/hoping the same. Going to need to get a hoop, claws and t-rods too.

aitwood.com. They have the best prices for wood bass hoops than ANYONE.

Around 20ish plus shipping, and they will even cut a groove for the wrap.

Well I got these home, they need a few things. BD hoop and one hoop for each of the other drums as well. Also the snare uses some kind of strange snare butt design, most of the butt is missing. Also needs two or three BD claws, not to mention tension rods for all the drums that are missing a hoop. The wrap is absolutely impeccable and I see no pitting or rust anywhere. Despite the missing hoops and so forth these are real cream puffs.

The truth is, I bought these because the owner was going to donate them to a charity auction. I did not want to see these go to some charity auction so some rich guy can claim a tax deduction. I want these to go to a real collector. If anyone wants to trade, I'll swap for several old ratty MIJ sets of the cheaper variety for restoration (Star and it's many stencil brands, Pearl and it's stencil brands, Hoshino and it's brands too).

That offer you threw out there is very tantalizing - at the same time, you are going to have to list the sizes and probably more pics in order to garner some interest.

That being said - I don't think you will have a problem getting someone here to take you up on that offer.

What do we know about these exactly? Are these birch? (like I said) sizes? How many plies? rerings? etc. Have we nailed down a year/model?

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

Yeah, I'll put together some pics and do a more thorough examination. Right now I'm very busy getting the shop open. I run a seasonal shop, I shut down during the winter and open in the spring. So this time of year is very hectic as I get ready for spring, ordering parts, preparing inventory, selecting projects, just haven't had time to do much with these Yammies yet. I'll try to update this weekend.
