60's Sonor Blue Onyx

Loading...

Hi All,

Just picked up this mid 60's Sonor Blue Onyx 16" floor tom.

As you can see from the pics the wrap is quite shrunk and lifting with several cracks. The question is what to do with it? I did buy it for parts but hate to fiddle with anything vintage that can't be fully restored with just a cleaning. I think the wrap is beyond saving but what are your opinions?

Thanks

~K

Actually , that finish was called Royal Blue Marble .

The wrap is beyond saving . How are the bearing edges ? Any damage ?

Thanks for the input. The bearing edges are excellent, except for a re-ring unstuck at one edge.

It'd be a shame to trash that shell . The re-ring can be re-glued . What parts are you going to strip off the drum ? How much you pay for it ?

I'm going to keep the shell because it's in pretty good shape. I can glue and clamp the re-ring and re-wrap, maybe in Rosewood? All of the chrome is VG +

except for the bottom hoop which is pitted Cooked Egg

Yeah...I wouldn't have guilt about removing that wrap...too bad, but, hey...it ain't your fault. Looks like a nice tom, though. 14" deep ?

I did pick up one of these and I thought mine was in bad shape compared to the rest of my sonors, but it cleaned up pretty good. The sonors come apart and go back together very nicely. Theres some rims and t rods for yours on ebay right now. According to the sonor museum mine is blue slate pearl. Im pretty sure yours is to.

I wish the wrap wasn't destroyed but the shell and chrome are in great shape and with a new wrap...really stylin' Kleening
