My friend Jazz drummer Brian Menendez acquired this early 50's round badge kit recently from the widow of the original owner. We are at my house now fixing seam lifts, etc. they are in excellent condition. Slight beautiful even fade.

Has the pre curser snare to the Max Roach model. All the lugs, rims, drum hardware are original. This is the real deal folks beautiful kit. Will get pics posted as we work. Here is the snare already cleaned up. Brian made this pic earlier.

Snare is 14"x4" 9"x13" 16"x16" 14"x22"

We are waiting for the glue to set on the bass drum.

One cavil... that's not a pre-curser... that is the Max Roach model. The first iteration had tub lugs because Gretsch hadn't yet produced the dies for a smaller lug.

However, there's a functional problem with the early 3-ply 4x14. The placement of the Microsensitive throw doesn't allow for complete disengagement of the wires in the off position without readjusting the tension knob. Gretsch corrected the problem later in the 6-ply model by raising the throw's position.
