'48 Radio King Set Possibly Coming My Way

The version of Black Diamond Pearl that Slingerland and SlingerLeedy used was a larger random pattern that was more lively and had more varying shades of black, gray, and silver than the Black Diamond Pearl wrap used by most other drum makers.

Just for clarity the SlingerLeedy drum pictured is a '58-'61 and has the Black Diamond Pearl wrap used from '56-'72 (some claim the nicest BDP ever produced). A 22” RK BD was unusual for 48,no?

I believe it is unusual for that time. Another plus. I was hoping it might be a 24" BD, but I'll take the 22."

The seller also has another RK 16" floor tom of the same era that he wants to sell, but it has different legs-probably added-and it looks like it's been recovered in bright white WMP. He'd like me to take that too at further cost. I don't know that I could find BDP in the exact pattern of the '48s that would match, but it would be cool to do the Gene Krupa two floor toms thing.

Yeah, I like the 2 floor tom thing, it is old school cool.

As far as the wrap, you could reach out to member ARdrummer, as he is really into re-wrapping drums. I'm guessing he knows what's out there and where to find it.

You'd have to find old wrap, the new stuff doesn't come close.

I was afraid of that. I'm a bit OCD about drums matching (except for snares), so if I couldn't find the exact match for the BDP, it would always bother me.

My experience with black diamond pearl wrap is that the stuff from Jammin Sam has a larger chip then the wrap you get from Precision drum. I recently made a snare drum to match 60s Ludwig kit and the wrap matched beautifully. I know we are talking about two different drum manufacturers from different eras so maybe this information is useless.
