1970 Pearl Phenolic Concert Tom Kit.

Hey JRichard - Yes I will look inside the shells (I would've fully inspected my purchase anyway) but if there is something specific I will post it here :)

I should have the kit by the end of March - Sometimes there's just no hurrying these things...

As For the Pedal - I sure appreciate the offer - I love that era of pedals but it is unnecessary, partly due to your cost and my running double eliminators.... gasp (on my BLX) - I could always go back to single-nicko-style-shin-splitting-lightning-singles........

One More Thing JRichard - The Answer to Your Signature Question is - "When You are caught between a Rock and a Hard Place!"

Cheers,

Rez.

That's an awesome kit - love it! Completely overlooked and under-reated these days. Nice work.

Very cool thread.

I came upon a Phenolic shell a few years back and still have it.

It was a prototype shell made by Allen Blaemire. It was never assembled.

Wow - Nice Snare Shell - Is it for sale?

Anyway thanks for the pic!

JRichard - I have thoroughly inspected the inside, outside, upside and downside of these phenolic dyna shells and there are no markings, inscriptions, stickers or any other mark to suggest that they have been tampered with or written on...

I will tell you though, on close inspection each shell has a different mold pattern. A few of the smaller shells have straight mold lines the full length of the shell whilst others, namely the larger shells have swirls and or diagonal brush-stroke mold patterns.

Amazing to behold - especially considering how thin the material is, its rigidity is surprising, with enough sensitivity to resonate at the sound of my voice.

The "Once Silver" Shell Covering is now a gorgeous aged Champagne Pearl, and the chrome is Brilliant for its age...

Without any hesitation I put these shells up on the top shelf of sound properties. I couldn't possibly be happier...Cool Dude

Hunting and searching and this thread has just about answered all my questions, I have the same kit but with the the double B/Ds and the 18" floor but Im missing the 6" 8" & 10" which I would love to get, so does any one have any leads at all fro trying to track down these last remaining toms??

I have all the new skins on order over £200 of Evans Double oil filled, but im hanging of to see if I can get the remaining toms or will I get the maxwin ones sprayed and used?

So happy that so many love this kit and Im so proud to have one. Back in the 80s it was the only kit I had that could cut through the backline AND the FOH with out any mics, mind you I had to use wooden Bass drum beaters!!

Once I get the skins back and I get the kit thoughly cleaned i'll repost the new pictures :)

glncmp,

I have a set of Pearl 6-8-10-12 maple concert toms in silver satin which is the same color as yours. They come in a case and have new Evans clear G2's. They are not phenolic or fiberglass but they are the right color. The 6-8 and 12 have the 80's badge. The 10" has the 70's badge. All drums are equipped with vari-set mounts. The 10" came from the factory drilled for a clip mount but either they added the Vari-Set hardware for my order or the music store installed it after the fact. Regardless, let me know.

Here is a photo of the kit that I had. 24-13-14-16-18 wood fiberglass in silver satin. The 6-8-10-12 maple are still available. Sold the others last year to a guy that lost his W/F kit in a fire and was desperately looking to replace them.

By the way, your floor tom is still quite close to the original color (at least in the photograph) while the concert toms seem to have patina'd into gold a bit. That is quite normal.
