1965 Ludwig Oyster Blue Pearl Jazz Festival

[SIZE="5"]1965 Ludwig Oyster Blue Pearl Jazz Festival snare drum.[/SIZE]

The shell was made June/15/1965.

The drum's shell is mahogany/poplar/mahogany/wrap

(with maple reinforcing rings).

The drum has a deep warm tone.

The drum kit that this snare belongs to is amazing.

Wow... looks good!

I love that wrap, and wish it was still available today. I'd be tempeted to rewrap my player's kit with it!

Looks like it's got a P-85 instead of a P-83?

58 year old Ringo Tribute artist here............ have the Super Classic and and the Downbeat.......both 1965 originials............... but I have a rewrap snare.

Just curious,why did you remove the resocoat?That ,as well as removing the original hardware,will have a dramatic effect on the resale value,of a once collectable drum.Did you use a P-85,or did you use a different strainer,and drill additional holes in the shell?

The vintage hardware was replaced with modern "vintage style" Ludwig hardware

(I did keep the original hardware).

No additional holes were drilled into the shell.

The shell was not tampered with. However, The ResoCoat

was replaced with clear satin polyurethane.

(It was done professionally. It looks factory made from Ludwig).

I have found that removing the ResoCoat (and/or laquer) and replacing

it with polyurethane, brings out a wonderful natural tone from the drum.

Plus, it also helps to protect the shell for many years.

...... The drum sounds amazing.
