Hello all I am a nube here with a quandry. I have a 1963-64 ? 54 outfit It is my nephews it is in decent shape but would I am sure need re-storing though it is remarkable condition for it age and what it life has been. It has been in storage for several years now, in original fiberboard cases. This kit still has the original bottom heads that ave the logo on them and a stamp from the music shop from Detriot. I am looking to sell this for my nephew as he needs the money, and am considering taking it to the Chicago drum show does anyone or could anyone throw me a ballpark figure on what I should ask for it?? A local drum pro claimed that this kit could bring 15K there but I question his judgement after doing research on this kit and selling prices. it is untouched original but no cow bell or kick drum pedal as they broke that when young, one of the stands is missing but I am looking for that it should be around, but rest is original.... Royal Ace snare,,even Avedis cymbals and throne, it is faded some but Aqua marine sparkle... I could use some honest input that might save me a trip to Chicago as of now I plan on taking it there to sell....I am a Amp Tech so I am out of my element and thought I could use some good advice.. I wish I had a pic to post maybe get one up later today as I need to clean the kit up today, am I wasting my time thinking this could be worth 2,000$-15 K Is what this drum guy told me, he has held a couple worlds records or claims to have, Shoot he is probably a member here on this site. To go or not to go that is the question LOL I could use some senior member advice or anybody that know there stuff cause I am thinking I would be lucky to pull 2K for this kit from the research Ive done, could this kit be worth 15k ???? or am I being shined on ?? Thank you all, Ive been reading your posts since last night and learning alot, great forums by the way, much stuff here and I am blown away by all the info Ive run across.. This is why I decided to ask my question... here is a link to the 1963 Premier drum catalogue it is the drum set on the very top exact same kit http://vintprem.moonfruit.com/#/1963/4533079815
1963 Premier 54 outfit Aquamarine sparkle Drum show in Chi Town, To go or not to go
Pics well tell the whole truth and nothing but the truth.Walking
Sell it to the "local drum pro" for 15k and move on. That would save you a horrendous amount of work. Plus, you would get in the neighborhood of 10 times the value of the kit.
You are indeed being "shined on".
Sight unseen - the kit is not worth anywhere remotely close to 15k.
We would certainly have to have pictures. Aquamarine sparkle is an extremely fragile color as it fades quickly and, I might add, it does not fade well. It generally turns a bit green, then to a very sickly pale yellow and finally a miserable grey all the while incurring nasty "liver spots". Finding AM sparkle in good condition is fairly rare. Royal Ace snares are nice and, of course, late 50's early 60's Zildjians are pretty desirable, but I would be surprised if there was 15k worth of gear. Does anyone know what that AM sparkle kit went for a couple of years ago?

Though I'm sure it's a nice kit, 15 K is WAY out of the ballpark! Vintage Premiers don't fetch what american vintage kits fetch. The Royal Ace does add some value and aquamarine sparkle is a nice wrap, but most of the vintage Premier kits I see for sale (in north america) are going for anywhere from 500$ to 1500$, depending on their condition. Most kits on the pricier side have been sitting on ebay for a long time. Pre-International sizes also factor in, because not everybody has the patience to custom order heads. The Royal Ace also needs special snare wires, so if they are not in good shape, this can lower value, because they are rare/pricey.
Without pics it's really hard to estimate..The cymbals might be worth quite a bit. Also worth weighing the cymbals in grams (or converting the weight to grams after weighing) and adding that info with uploaded pics. There's is lots of info on that here. Dig a bit using the search option. Also worth digging through the For Sale section here to get an Idea of what other Premier kits have sold for. I often see the phrase "the value of a kit is what someone is willing to pay for it" on here. I hope it finds it's new owner! Good Luck!

I've been shopping Premier for over 5 years, so I've kept my ear to the ground. The 70s AquaM kits average around 700, depending on condition and configuration. There was one picked up by a member here about 5 years ago for 150. The price has climbed a bit over the years, but not to the degree that was mentioned above. Steve M's got one right now for 1200. The 60s kits sometimes hit the street level mid-grand mark, depending on condition. I've seen one in the past year or so hit above that, but not in the stratosphere. Premier just doesn't demand major bucks in the States. Never understood that.
Yes I dont expect to get 15k but it was bought back in the 80's early 90's by my sister and I for 400 and I knew enough that is was a odd duck and the cymbals alone were vintage as for the kit It knew it was old the bass drum is the only one faded across about the top half on one side as if it was set up in the sun fixed in that one position for some time I am cleaning it up now as one of the rides in not Avedis it is stamped made in Italy and it the largest ride rest are Avedis and it came from East Detriot drum ??? the rest is unreadable but they put there stamp on it. This was bought as a starter kit for my nephew he never took off and so it came to me and Ive been sitting on it since the late 90's it is unique that I will say and I dont see many metric sets this age in the U.S I knew it was a good investment and would only get more valuable but ??? How much more could it be worth the drive to Chicago and maybe 2k ?? or more or less I will post some pics but all I have is a web cam so bear with me thanks guys ..
The matching Royal Ace helps somewhat, but the only way to get close to the 2k range is if the cymbals are amazing.
Agreed with the above post, Premier drums were pretty fantastic. Their design aesthetic was well beyond what American manufacturers were doing. That doesn't mean that they are everyone's taste but it is hard to argue. Their Lokfast stands are arguably the most artistic percussion stands ever built. Their shells were well done and their chrome was the best in the business and most people tend to agree about that. All of that said, you can pick them up fairly cheaply here.

Now for the last of them here is the bad side of the bass and the good. Im just throwing these up sorry if i duplicate.... Should I go to Chicago. Or is it a waste of time, plus side it will get exposer and probably pull the most $ there than locally, down side I dont want to go if I cant make it worth my while as I am only getting a kick back on the deal....lol
Ouch. Rough rough rough fade. Snare looks great, though. Value will take a serious nose dive with that level of fade. GREAT kit. Serious quality drums.
