1960s Ludwig Psychedelic Red Snare Drum!

Spoke with the seller today and he mentioned it came from Delmar. With it being a newer wrap, would exposing it to direct sunlight still fade the greens to white? I do prefer the look of my faded Psych Red kit to the original factory look.

That wrap material was, I think, the first re-issue of the psych red and won't really match the original very well. It's very "flat" looking...I think they used a computer scan or something like that...

The new version is a much better match...

It would be hard to fade the wrap to lose the greens...

[COLOR="DarkRed"]It will be impossible to fade a new wrap to match an old.

Period.

I thought everyone had discontinued carrying the psychadelics....I see it on J'Sam's site...but I think it's a special order.

While psych red kits bring some dough, they are not that uncommon. However, very few matching snare drums were made. Most players opted for the shiny chrome Supra. That is why the snares bring so much money. The price quoted is probably about right. I have been at this vintage thing for a number of years, and don't recall seeing one sell in public recently. No, you can't get a newer wrap to fade quickly. Now if you have a number of years to let it sit in direct sunlight....... perhaps.

There is hope.... I have seen a number of rewrapped psych red snares. Probably your best option.

Around 25 years ago, I was at a music store in Florida and a guy walked in with a Ludwig snare drum in what I thought was a really odd wrap. He tried to sell it to the guy behind the counter, who was not interested. The guy said,

"Come on, can't you give me ten bucks for it?"

"No."

I started to follow the guy out the door and give him ten bucks for the drum, but it didn't match my Champagne Sparkle kit, and I really had no use for it. The drum probably ended up in the nearest trash bin.

Thinking back, I'm pretty sure it was one of the psycho finishes. DOH

If he's saying this much $$$....

From wflkurt

They are not cheap either. Probobly $2500-3000 for one! Ouch! The only more rare ones would be mod orange and citrius mod. Good luck!

....than how much $$$ do you think a Black Panther wrapped snare would be worth to someone?
