kellyj!... Regarding the PureSound wires for this snare drum:

I have the OEM wires with my snare.. but .. I took them off and put on a set of the PureSounds. The OEM wires are actually "okay", but at 56 years old currently, well, they have seen their share of "stretching". LOL! The PureSounds that are offered for THIS set-up.. ( P87 and P88 ) .. do sound EXCELLENT on this drum. I do play this drum when I bring out my 1948/1950 WFL Buddy Rich Super Classic set, and those wires have never disappointed. I don't gig that set often actually, but HAD TO a couple times just to do it!! So Kelly... what butt do you have on your snare? P88 or P32? Here's a pic of the full set.. ( Buddy Rich Super Classic ) from the right side. It was LOW stage light, but you get the idea!

Hey Tommy. oops! jumped the gun!! I also have my original snare wires and like yours they just don't sound all that great at least compared to the puresound wires. I absolutely love this WFL snare drum it's one of my favorites now.

Wow! Is that nice...You're the WMP man. Well, so was Buddy for that matter.

Question. Would the P88 fit in place of my P33 so I could install the long snare set from Puresound. In other words no extra holes involved with a conversion. I notice on my Leedy & Ludwig snare from 1952 there is a P88.

Actually it's the P32, not a P33... and no biggie there of course, I just thought you might want to know the actual number of that particular butt! Anyway...

I suspect that the mounting holes on the P32 and P88 will be the same... and there are only two of course. The "issue" is going to be at "what height is your P32 mounted at on the shell" ? Seeing as the P32 is just a stamped/pinch butt... the existing holes may be too low for the P88 to function as that butt has to be HIGHER up the shell to properly position the wires for attachment/function. That's going to be the "issue" I think. Have a look though!!

Why mess with manufacturing history and design. Integrity in this hobby is very important. I checked both of my early snares, a 1948 Leedy and a 1951 Leedy & Ludwig. Both have the Ludwig "Standard" type butt with a roller wheel mechanism. Similar in design to the P88, excepting the P88 has two tapped holes in a hexagonal "roller", I believe to receive the screws for the snare?
