1920's Leedy drum set value Last viewed: 6 minutes ago

Loading...

Your set is about a 1927 Leedy with a Professional snare. I recently sold a newer 1930's version with a near mint windmill head, all chrome hardware, solid maple shell Broadway snare drum, temple blocks, three toms, bells, whistles etc, for $2000. The sparkling gold finish is more desirable than white marine but the 1930's Leedy snare drums are more sought after usually, due to the more modern and reliable lugs. Hope this gives you some reference.

Leedy did not start stamping dates inside their shells until around 1936, so there probably won't be a date stamp inside.

P.S. The gold color of Leedy hardware is not "Artgold". That was Slingerland's term for it. Leedy's was called "Nobby Gold", whatever that means.

Nobby: 19th C. term meaning fancy or chic, usually associated with the upper class or wealthy attire.

I would list your snare, as is in the 1,100 to $1,300 range because the market is down. The oil painted Ludwig BD heads are going for $200 today. Just a figure from the market today. If you need to sell it research it well, if not, DON`T. It`s family.

I've sold a bunch of similar (actually one exactly the same) snares, when the market was stronger, and never got near $1000.

I'd say if you want to sell the set, with all the doo dads, and could get $1000-1500 you'd be doing real well. As cool as those '20s Leedys are, and they're some of my favorites, they're not real fast or high priced sellers.

the drums are fab! but the cymbals could be a sleeper some are going for big bucks for the period correct brass if early zildjians !!!

April 2nd 1969 scarfed pink champagne holly wood and 65/66 downbeat snare, and , supra same year very minty kit old pies
66/67 downbeat with canister
Super 400 small round knob
1967 super classic obp

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
