I'm never going to be blasting on this kit at any kind of volume but I do enjoy playing a wide range from jazz and bop to surf and hip hop.

I have Vintage Emperors on my Slingerland kit and love them but I'd like to try something different, maybe something a bit more low volume.

The Evans Calftones look interesting but I'm not sure about them.
It depends on whether the finish is natural wood or a pearl covering. The extra ply of plastic makes it tough to fit heads. Ive had some luck with natural skin heads. Either Kentville or Bovid are great companies.

For years, Charlie Watts has used black dot on top.

After cleanup and restoration of my RB silver glass '63 (given by a dear friend years ago) I couldn't fit my usual coated Ambassadors. I think they were somewhat new at the time, and I tried the Aquarian American Vintage, and loved them. Warm, round tone and great with brushes.
