Year of Zildjian Catalog - ?

Early to mid 1970's is as much as it can be narrowed down.

Even though there's no date on that catalogue, the era can be extracted from the cymbal trademarks in the photos and the hollow ink logo being used. It's certain that its not as late as the later 1970's because the A. Zildjian & Cie. brilliant series hadn't come out as of yet. Those brilliants shown there still have the standard trademark.

I would guess this is from the 60's? Any help would be greatly appreciated

I'm scanning this now, so I will have it up soon.

Just checking, I also have the first 4 Zildjian White Papers... Have you seen those before Drumaholic?

The catalogue that you have here is from June 1977.

No I have never seen or even heard of those Zildjian white papers.

What are they?

Hey,

I have that cat. It's one of the few that I've held on to over the years. I've looked for a date on it. No luck. I can say that I had it for several years before I graduated High School way back in 1980. So, that should put it mid to late 70's. Thanks so much for scanning these in. I've needed some of these that I threw away over the years. What was I thinking???

I have this catalog, wih its original pricelist. Price list says: "all prices effective May 1, 1981" so I'd bet its from 1981.....

I take exception to that. There can be as much as several years difference between when a catalogue was issued and the date on the price list that comes with it. Typically they issue a catalogue that is used for as much as a decade. Then they update that catalogue with the current prices with a price list. There were no doubt several price lists that were issued in conjunction with this particular catalogue.

In this case the exact month and date of this catalogue are printed on the back page.

I both agree with you and take exception to your exception.....:D

I've just examined the copy I have in my collection from cover to cover and there is no printers mark with any kind of date code on any of the pages, expecially the bak page. It is not a reproduction, I've had it since new and it came with the price list way back then. I believe it is from 1981 for sure. Inside all the cymbals are on late 70's Slingerland or Ludwig Atlas/Hercules hardware, there is a page offering the Brilliant "process" and the cymbals all have the hollow ink zildjian logos.....IIRC the brilliant process wasn't brought out until 1980......so......I'm sticking with 1981....

Hey,

Not to get in between you two, but again...I got my copy new. I was in high school when I got it. I graduated high school in 1980. So, I'm not sure I would stick with 1981 quite so sternly. I can assure you I had it prior to walking across that stage May of 1980. I picked it up along with a Ludwig cat when I purchased a new cymbal stand. I've still got both of those. They still have the ink marks where I selected my "dream set up" that I was going to buy when I graduated. Just something to think about.
