Wine red stain match

Loading...

Well guys, here is my next challenge. I had some dye made to match this Pearl tom. This is for another VDF member, I am sure he will chime in. What do you guys think of the match? We think it is dead nuts here. Comments welcomed please.

Is this for a second mounted tom or a floor tom? The closer the drum is to it's "mates" the closer the match has to be. I tried to color match a drum and the stain wouldn't even penetrate the wood-

I will be doing a 6", 8" toms plus a 18" floor tom and two hoops. I think the color is real good but would like to hear some guys agree with me before I start spraying. Finishing up Johns clubbies at the moment.

Thanks Glenn, the owner thinks so also, so I guess I will go ahead with the dye. I dont know if it can be any better to be honest.

Keep in mind too that the sample was done on a piece of hard maple that I didnt even sand very good. I think I will do one more sample on a piece the is sanded properly.

Thank you!

OK, not done yet but here is where I am at. The shells need a clear gloss top coat but still look pretty good.

A few pics of the progress

Pic one, raw shells ready for dye.

Pic two, tom tom with dye.

Oic three, tom tom with first coat of shading.

Pic three, color comparison after several shading coats.
