Kevins. You know what was really funny? I met my wife in my late 20s? We got marrried raised 2 boys and although they kinda knew I was in band, the subject never came up. I had bought a used beginner kit for my boys, who both play guitar. Only one of them had a mild interest and mostly just to vent out his teenaged frustrations. I would secretly play them when they were out. So one day I played them a groove I had been working on and they were totally shocked that I was able to play it competently. Both boys jaws just dropped. Kinda spurred me on to try more things. My wife told me she knew I had been in band , but didn't know I could play that well. Of course she is biased. I have been having a blast learning all about drums. Construction, playing, vintage, even some clinics, the whole 9 yards. I hope your experience has been the same.
Where is introduction part of forum? Last viewed: 12 minutes ago
Hello all,
First time poster, longtime drum nut.
This site is fantastic and I'm looking forward to contributing. I teach here in Jersey City, NJ and do repairs for my many drummer friends. Currently working on a '58 Gretsch "Name Band" kit. 22", 13", 18" and 14"x6.5" All 3 ply, WMP. I'll try to post some pics soon.
I'm also in the process of opening up a drum repair shop and studio in my neighborhood. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Pete
Welcome aboard !!............
Ahhhh Hell,
Ive already ruffled some feathers.....and may as well introduce myself.... I think I may hang my hat here!!
I am ZOLE 40 yrs old.....musician since Piano lessons at age 5 ...then when My dad was owed money for a machine he fixed and got a guitar and traynor cabinet in lieu of payment I played guitar from age 16.....started playing guitar in a band soon after that..... I have always owned drums..and been around them forever.....taught myself to play in the attic of my Mom and Grams business on a POS Sears kit (but really cool remo roto toms )....but when a friend asked me to play in his band (after my band took a hiatus) ... I sat down on his Roland td-10 kit to audition.....he told me that he had band pictures booked before I even hit a drum I figured I may be in trouble.... He was a very accomplished drummer even sponsored by paiste back in the day and he was singing in this project.... so for 3 and a half years I got paid every week to get professional drum lessons from a master in front of an audience HAHAH.... When my time with that project ended I re-formed my old band and now play drums..... every weekend.

Now that I've stumbled across the intro thread, I'll say "hi" and say a little about what brought me here...
I've been a drummer/percussionist for about 15 years, but not in the usual sense. I've done drum & bugle corps and orchestral-type stuff, but have hardly spent any time behind a kit. I had been getting the itch to give it a shot and as fate would have it, a salvageable 1950s Slingerland four-piece kit was donated to the school where I work a few weeks ago. Being a drummer, a history buff, and a lifelong jazz fan, it just seemed like it was meant to be, so I'm bartering to adopt the ol' set.
I'm just starting the restoration process, so here's a "before" shot. Give me a few weeks and I'll post the "after".
Thinking about the question earlier in the thread about favorite drummers, here a few of mine: Buddy Rich (duh), Papa Jo Jones, Joe Morello, Vinnie Colaiuta, Antonio Sanchez, Jeff "Tain" Watts, Carter Beauford, David Garibaldi ...and the list goes on and on and on.
Ok, I gess i'm in the intro part now...Hi all! I'm giger, just wanna say that i'm learning so much stuff on this forum,so i keep comming back.........most every day.;) Cheers
Welcome......
