Hi All,Since the Pearl Forum is flagged as an attack page I signed up here to get my drum and cymbal talk fix.

This place works great if you have a "Vintage Drum Jones" .... !!

Welcome

Hello, I just joined.

I'm 15 years old, and I live in Oregon, I have been drumming for about a year now, and I'm hoping I can expand my knowledge of Vintage gear here as well as look for parts for a kit I'll be setting up soon (Ludwig B/O 6 ply's), I'm hoping to have a 22 - 13 - 15 - 16 set-up and already have a 15x14 and a 13x12 shell.

I've been a member on other forums since I started playing and am proud to know things about vintage drums, and drums in general (Unlike other people my age )

Hopefully you guys will show me more. :)

Who I am, WHO I AM, who am I,

who am I is a question for the ages.

That’s one we are all searching for, to find out who I am, who’s in there, who wants to come out and say, hey, I'm hungry. Who I am is too deep and prof-, almost, you gotta go in deep and pull out the thing like with the movie with the thing came out of the stomach and up the people on the ****ing spaceship, may they rest in peace.

My name is Ben Sobol... lione. Ben Soblione.

I'm also known as Benny the Groins, Sammy the Snoz, Elmer the Fudd, Tubby the Tuba, and once as Miss Fillis Lavine, but that was at a party, it was years ago, I smoked a te-te-bet and I had a quc-ca-lude and suddenly, I'm in fishnets and singing show tunes. These things happen, but it has nothing to do with what I'm here with you fine gentlemen today so I apologize.

Hi,

I'm new. A friend of mine said this was 'the' place to talk about drums.

I've had drum sets since I was 6 years old and have been playing in earnest since the 80s.

Just wanted to follow protocol and say hello here instead of jumping in the deep end.

Thanks

Update:

In the 'John Bohnam's real toms' thread I mentioned my 67 ludwig. It is a new acquisition and I mistakenly assumed it was a hollywood because of the double tom mount that was substituted with rogers swivomatics. Well, I took the swivomatics off and that was it, no other holes. So I looked closely where the rail should have been and sure enough it's a 4 bolt consolette. I was thrown off by the fact that the bass drum was painted black inside over the usual white - I discovered this when putting felts on the bass drum heads - and the excellent "filler" job done on the bolt holes.

Anyway, this is getting interesting. I figured I'd put this update here since I don't want to start a thread that exposes me for the ignoramus that I am. I just want the sound of the 60s ludwigs, so I'm not feeling ripped off or anything, and I'm not a collector, just a player.

In any case, leaving the swivos off, leaving the rail off and going snare stand for the 9x13 rack. next step is to get some good sounding brass.

Ya I was looking for the welome wagon also so I posted on Vintage drums???

Oh well so here I am again an old school drummer from Minnesota still playing a 73 Slingerland "POP OUTFIT" set with the open toms. As I get older I appreciate them more, The still sound great and I can stack and pack 5 drums, cymbals and hardware into 3 cases with the trap case having wheels.

Moving small is nice.

Look forward to hearing from other Slingerland Owners and the great info on the forums

I'll add to this :)

I've owned a few vintage kits over the years....

Pre-serial Ludwig Classic's in Sliver Sparkle (miss those *sniff*)

60's ClubDate downbeat Red Sparkle (*tears)

70's Gretsch SS badge in Sky Blue Pearl (miss those too)

Vintage Premier bebop

60's Slingy Blue Sparkle (this is starting to hurt LOL) Violin

Various snares, blah blah blah...

I'm down to 1 atm :(

70's original stain Slingerland player downbeat configuration.

Also have a couple 70's Ludwig shells that I've been meaning to put together for AGES LOL

Good to be here!

Thanks for the forum!

Hi all, This is my first post. I have been looking with envy at all these people with beautiful old Ludwig kits! I have always wanted one, but even the new US made models are hard to get and very expensive here in New Zealand. I do have an old Premier resonator kit that I bought new in 1975, and I might sell if someone was interested. I will post some photos later. In the mean time I really enjoy looking at all your photos!

Thanks for the welcome. Here is the Premier kit. I bought it in 1975, and it was sold as a Kenny Clare model. The 14 X 10 tom was added a year or so later, there was a mount (which I still have) for a ride cymbal on the bass drum. The kit came with a Premier 2000 model snare.

Yes it has the flo-beam snare mechanism. Still works well but I need to get a set of the twin snare wires it was fitted with originally. It has Premier snare wires, but not the original type.

Hello everyone. I guess this is the "Intro thread".

I signed up because I have a vintage ludwig set that I received for doing some work about 20 years ago. I really don't know much about drums but I did play as a teenager. My neighbor was Jeff Porcaro, if anyone here knows who he was then you know I was a pretty lucky guy to have him as a neighbor to "help" me out a bit with my very limited skills. I guess I should get the drums out and photograph them. They seem to be in very good condition, they have been packed away in their bags for years and I just got them out to give them a look. Took down the serial numbers on the badges and from what I can gather they are a early to mid 60's jazz set. I'm hoping to get some feedback from the experts here on what I have and decide what to do with them.

I'll try to get photos posted up pretty soon.

Thanks for having me and putting up with my ignorance on the subject matter here.

Ron
