Where do I start?...my new summer project

Loading...

I found a site called called Ludwig Drum.com...seem all the early mid 60's Ludwig drum had wraps. Im definatley thinking of putting a wrap on these. I did a search on ebay out of curiousity...and found a guy selling every color imaginable for $69 , and will cut to size.

Im just betting someone stripped these down at one time. I was gonna re-stain..but thought how cool they would look in Candy Apple green or blue sparkle.

awwwwwwhhh I can hear the rumbling now...

Pls don't use the cheap $69 wrap over...

get ready for everybody else to put in there $69 worth..lol

You got them for free / so everybody here would say / spend a few bucks ($300 to $400) and refinish properly or sell them to someone here that is willing to do the correct work and do THEM justice..Clapping Happy2

Precision wrap or slammin sams will cost ya @ $250 to $300 for the nice wrap/glue etc or Sammys is the tape method..

Everybody here is more then helpful..with help/advice/tips and encouragement...

We like pics (lots)..!

We have never heard anything good about that cheep wrap. It is basically an expensive contact paper. It is very thin and alomost impossible to get it on without bubbles or wrinkles. And if you are un happy with it in a year or so you will not get it off. Wrapping the drums is fine but spend some cash and get the proper quality wrap. Check jaminsams.com , they just recently introduced some nice material that wont break the bank. That stuff on ebay would be a huge mistake.

And if you did decide to sell for whatever reason please contact me, I could do a real nice stain and lac job on them. I would also offer my service for free if you pay the materials and shipping + strip the old finish. Contact me if your interested. Im in Illinois. Not a joke, free labor and about 50.00 of materials. I do it for the joy of restoring drums and that great feeling of helping someone out.

Thank you!

Thanks for the offer, JCCABINETS....will keep in mind! But, I need me a summer project...so whatever I do ..will probably do myself.

Didn't know so many sites sold the wrap! I just came across the ebay one when I did a search..but, after doing a google search..found lot more companies. Anywhere from $70-$450 or higher. All kinds of videos on that type of thing too.

Will post pics during the summer ... thanks for the advice here!

Did you check this out,

Glad to hear your going to do this your self! Just make sure you have room for wrap. Lots of guys have problems with heads fitting, myself included.

Good luck, please keep us posted.

Thank you!

As was mentioned in another thread, sparkle wrap is a lot easier to apply than the glass glitter wrap. The sparkle is thinner and more flexible, where the glass glitter is thicker and stiff. I would recommend the tape method, which is available from Jammin Sam's.

Blue sparkle wrap is going to be middle of the road for price. Too bad you didn't get the floor tom. It wouldn't hurt to start searching for one before you purchase the wrap for the snare, tom and bass.

Tim, I agree with everything you've mentioned..

sparkle is way easiler then glitter (I've done both / glue method)

Tape is easiler then glue..

Find a flr tom before hand or buy enough wrap now / so that when you do find it...you'll have ready to go..

**Make sure the wrap doesn't stop at the top/bottom of the shell..!

1/4 SHORT from either end / so that skins will fit over nicely..

Don't worry the hoops/skins etc will cover..

My vote is just to restain. Let these babies breathe. Kind of like the Tin manin Wizard of Oz. Sitting there all rusted for years....

Good one larry...hahaha....like the tin man. Let it breathe. Ive been debating on wrap or restain past 3 days...even had dreams!! Looked at all the sites..of wrap...sams, drum foundry, precision..few more. Also...looking at stain videos on youtube. Seen some good, bad and ugly.
