Where are you most comfortable as a drummer?

Big band for me! You get to swing one tune and rock the next. How much fun is that? I'll take a sizzling horn section over a wailing guitar any day. BUT. I enjoy any style more if I'm working with a great bass player!

I am not a real good drummer so when I play I keep it very simple and straight forward... no attempted exact covers, no crazy fills, no crazy solos... 60's, 70's, folk rock/rock a little country... The Band, The Eagles, Beatles, Stones, Cash, Denver, Arlo Guthrie you get the idea.

I really enjoy playing and don't mind singing a few along the way as well. Small venues, open mics, jams, small festivals... where everybody is having fun and nobody is making over $50 for playing a set or two.Cool1

Startingagain and Jim; Great response where two totally different levels of playing can share the exact same excitement about the job at hand;. That's what is so great about forums like this!

Since I started playing I made it a point to always play anything and everything I could get my hands on. I've been in Rock,Pop,Metal,Folk,Nu Gaze,etc.. bands and have been just as comfortable in each. I actually enjoy joining bands or styles of music that I don't listen to as often as others. I'm 50/50. As much as I love to learn a part that's been mapped or play a precise part for a song, I love songs that just go on feel and you just play. Like a train on the tracks you just move forward until the end of the line.

+1 all the way. A poor bass player turns something fun into a chore.

I would think it would be hard to be a "poor bass player"..i mean 4 strings..thats it!..hahaha..Maybe more like frustrating, a guy with little to no feel. That would drive me nuts, pulling and pushing him all night!

Drummers need good bass players!!!I can see a new t shirt coming.

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
