What do I use on the inside of the drum and how do I remove paint from the wrap?

I picked up a 1969 Ludwig Black Oyster Pearl Bass drum with a lot of potential that has a few issues.

The previous owner painted the interior white and the exterior has paint splatter on it.

I have started to strip off the interior paint using an antique furniture paint remover that should not destroy the wood which is working very well however I need to know what I should use once I am done ? Not sure of it should be a clear matte finish, semi gloss spray, or something else. Do I need to stain it to bring it back to original color and if so,what should I use?

Next question... How the heck do I get the paint splatter off the wrap without ruining it? Other than the paint it's in excellent condition. I dont want to scratch the wrap using a flat blade razor. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Try scratching the paint off the wrap with your fingernail. I've never put anything on the interiors of my drums, but I've heard of people using tung oil and the like to protect the interiors of their drums.

Mike I took every bit of the paint off these silver sparkle Slingerlands

with this stuff here

the drums were completely painted over in purple paint

the paint came off easy and the stuff did no harm to the wrap at all

The bottle says it works on all types of paint

I got mine in the paint section at Home Depot

Shouldn`t the interior of a 69 Ludwig be white ?

The stuff worked like a champ. Tried the fingernail approach didn't work as they were really stuck on. The good news is that the chipped fingernails will grow back in a few weeks.

Reached out to Mike Layton: "In later part of '68, Ludwig transitioned from the white resacote interiors to clear maple interiors"

The paint on the interior was definitely a hack job and not factory paint. There was no paint under the washers, etc. "Circa 1850" furniture stripper took the paint right off without seeping into the wood. Used 220 grit then progressed to 1000 grit to get it ready for a light maple stain. I will take Creighton's advice and use Howard Feed "N" Wax to get some sheen to the finish and to protect the interior.

Will post other pics as I progress

Ha! Sorry about that! I've chipped a few myself, and rubbed them down to the quick a few times. I'm usually able to remove crud/paint/whatever with my fingernails safer than with plastic tools. I'm glad you're making good progress.

I can see that now. I`m a SONOR guy.

I use Natural beeswax, it goes on with the wet look but dries as if it was never done. Some finishes darken the wood. Light wood gets dark and dark wood gets lighter when you sheen finish them.
