Wee bit of madness

You can't get a good view at all of them, and you can't see the 35+ snares either. But this is probably the one best shot I have of the collection in one picture.

Front and center are some of my vintage Tama Superstars. Most of my kits are vintage, I own three modern kits. Those are my Peace Onyx,Pearl Session Maple, and Tama Starclassic Birch. Made mention only because of the photo.

Now the drums we really care about around here.

60's Tempro red sparkle - 20" bass, 12" tom

60's Kent blue oyster - 20" bass,12" tom,matching 14" snare

70's Ludwig Classic - 22" bass, 15" & 16" concert toms

60's Ludwig classic red sparkle - 13" tom,16" tom ( currently mismatched with a 1970's classic 20" silver sparkle bass drum )

70's Slingerland red sparkle - 24" bass,14" & 16" concert toms

84 Tama Imperialstar red - 22" bass,12 & 13" Xtras toms,16" floor tom

70's Tama Superstar super maple - 22" bass ( virgin ) 12",13",14",15" concert toms, 18" floor tom

83 Tama Superstar super maple - 24" bass ( x2 ) 12",13",14",14" Xtras toms,16",18" floor toms

60's Yamaha crimson red - 20" bass,14" floor tom,13" tom ( kent )

38 Ludwig & Ludwig white avalon pearl - 26" bass,11" tom,16" floor tom

60's U.S.Mercury - 22" bass,12",13" toms,16" floor tom ( my first kit )

60's Pearl MIJ - 22" bass,13" tom, 16" floor tom, matching 14" wood snare.

70's Ludwig Vistalite - 22" red bass,14" amber tom,16" blue floor tom ( love the jellybean )

At some point I plan to take a photo of each kit, some of the kits certainly aren't visible in the photo, and some I've acquired since then. I also have two more kits not mentioned. An 80's Tama Rockstar, and 2000's Swingstar. But those are both apart and kept strictly for their sentimental value.

So yea, I may be addicted to drums!

once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.

Now that's a very cool collection Jay! When did you start collecting? Or was it just a slow progress over the years? Some real gems in there. 35+ snares? Wow. 1 for each day of the month and then some. :)

Glenn.

It;s funny how I actually started collecting. When I first started playing, so many of the drums I have now were my " dream " drums. The sets I would see sell for unreachable amounts for a 17 year old. The first band I was in at that age my guitar player told me to get in touch with his girlfriends friend. He heard the dude was moving and had some drums he planned to throw out unless someone wanted them. I called, right before he was to leave for the dump....( timing anyone? ) he came by with the Tempro's, and my red sparkle / silver sparkle Ludwigs. Just gave them to me. That opened my door and I've been slowly at it since. I'll be honest and say I have found so many of these drums at dumb prices. I think when I post a photo of each kit I'll give my acquisition story with each one, some are tales of salvation. Others just good buys.

Figured I would add some photos of the 1938 L&L kit. I'm trying to get a complete kit as would have been seen back in the day. I found a period correct cowbell, bass drum hoop mounted cymbal holder, the cymbal clang for bass pedal, the cymbal holder for the clang and the external tone control. Still on the hunt for the snare, and floor tom stand. I made one from an older snare stand I had, and it gets the job done.

26" bass drum, 11",13" toms and 16" floor tom. The 13" tom is older and has the more copper badge. The bass, floor tom, and 11" all have the white badges.
