Ditto on Malwarebytes. We use it all the time (the free version). The "Pro" version allows you to have it actually running in the background all the time, like an anti-virus program.
Just a point that you might have missed ...Doing a system restore does not remove many of the interlopers that find their way onto your computer. Fact is, they reside there all nice and cozy and reappear over and over again with little to no warning. It may or may not have anything to do with a particular site you are visiting. Just a thought.
Good point. "System Restore" works with your registry, and though in a good many cases it will render the virus/malware infection inoperative, it DOES NOT remove it. So, it is possible to surface again under a variety of circumstances. The nastiest ones will not even allow you to access System Restore, even while in safe mode.
I followed your steps and did not receive any messages about being infected.Smart Fortress 2012 appears to be a rogue or fake anti-malware program. Here is some information about it.http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=107384Good luck.- Tim
