The head I re-seated came out perfect! Calf is easy to work with that way, get it softened up and it'll take any shape you put it on. The batter head is next up for cleaning and re-seating. Then I'll tackle the shell last. I'm only about half way done with the hardware, it's going to take hours at the buffer to put the metal pieces right again.
Something to note about the design of this kit... all of the lugs on the drums are 'single-point mount' hardware! Anything attached to the shells has a small footprint. Not much hardware on the shells at all. Most of the weight of a drum comes from all the heavy hardware that is attached. I'm certain it has an effect on the ability of the shells to vibrate freely. With all this single-point mount hardware on this kit, there is little to interfere with the shells ability to vibrate. Taken in combination with the maple shells and reflective painted interiors, it makes for a loud, resonant drum set that will project well. Just some thoughts I'm having as I work on these drums. Somebody put a lot of thought into designing this kit.
See my previous post for photos of the heads...
