Before Rogers came along with the beavertails' in 63/64 Gretsch were the most ideal drums to have from what I've heard, along with Ludwig and Slingerland.

+1 - Man, that must have been one thunderous sounding kit! I'd restore the photo and frame it. Hang it over by your drums somewhere you can see it when you play.

Duco was the type of paint used, not anything to do with how many colors in the finish. There was solid white Duco, solid black Duco, etc.

Thanks to all who replied. My friend read your responses to his dad, and he was able to confirm that it was a Gretsch. He sold it to a music store here in central Massachusetts. Where it ended up is anyone's guess.Falling Do
