Nice, Hardbat, nice.

Only 1 Problem with old Ks..

42 years on? You Can't Pick them.. They Pick you. :)

You can't pick and chose You find what you can find. That's what happens (unless you're a trillionaire) when dealing in with a defunct Company :(

the Cymbal itself is not 'hit or miss'...

Assembling a set is (!

3 or 4 that play and blend: Count lucky Stars. :D

They come from a time when 3,4 or 5 cymbals (hihat counts a 2..) in a set was "aPlenty.

It's a bch picking..them into "sets"..

I own a few (for 20 years) not really alot..

But "that one" extra 20" you really really want? that will be "1499.00" please..

That "one" extra hi hat top that you know will just "do it".."400$ please".

Sometimes- Old Ks- on one side. Like Left hats and a 20.

And Bosphorus on the Right side. Like a 22 and a 20 Flat.

That works.

But really the experience of (owning playing gigging) Old Ks

transfers.

Like (owning playing gigging) a Gretsch set.

Transfers.

You transfer the experience into a Modern Turkish make.

And don't look back.

I would have an issue if I was going in to record. (haven't done that in a while)

nothing recorded like Old Ks. were beyond perfect.

So I may hesitate taking in modern turkish

and would feel totally at ease with the result from

old Ks.

microphones love old ks.

Very interesting. Do you also agree with Mel's assessment of Istanbul cymbals being an old K equivalent. If so, I realize it was 1985 so does that still hold true? If so which models would be most old K like?

Agop 25th anniversary comes the closest to any I've heard to date. They emulate old stamps.

But I'm not sure that I totally agree with Mel's assessment. Those Istanbuls that he played in the video to me didn't sound as good as his old K's did. Hammering the bells is very important in creating the overall richness of sound, and except for their earliest ones they got away from doing that. That was a mistake in my opinion.

"Two born together brothers.

They came from the same set (Trixon), they are odd sized (exact 18’5” & 19’5”) and have the same missing spots on the stamps.

Type IIIa or IIIb, but can’t be sure which one because the missing parts on the stamps are the ones that can differentiate these two stamps. They sound really good and are light: 1408g the 18* and 1488g (!!) the 20*.

Of course, not for sale.

A couple of pictures and a little video I made of them as a soundfile."

the scoop of ice cream with the old K pie.

To find those in Spain..is amazing sorta adds to it.

JMoll always has extreme good taste in cymbals and won't settle for less.

Old K's are really not meant for "smacking".

Yeah, beauties. By the look, I'd say IIIa for both. My favorite era. Matthias' too based on all five of his Holy Grail 22's all being IIIa's.
