I pulled the head on the C/M tom and replaced it but didn't care about alignment, just that the head got back on the drum - it hasn't seen a stick in about 30-years... definetly skewed. The DH tom is fairly parallel and more an illusion of the photograpic plane and the tape measure.
Turning concert toms into closed toms
This poor thread got so jacked....

There is plenty of info on cutting bearing and drilling the lugs holes on virtually all the "drum supply house" sites like the Drum Foundry etc...

There are vids on Youtube as well that will give you an idea of what you will need to do.

Thanks, Hoppy. It's pretty much a dead issue now, but thanks for the info.
Have you thought about just refinishing the first set of already converted toms?
I guess there's a possibility of turning the converted toms back into concert toms. I'm sort of tired of thinking about it. I was basically looking for advice on how to not screw up the concert toms, but it looks like the best advice is to just not do anything. The pile of vintage Superstars in my music room will probably not be fooled with in any way. Will probably sell some and buy others, I don't know.
have you located any Tama Superstar Lugs?

There's some on ebay, but I'm not planning to bid.
Hey, dont get discourged. There's a lot of guys on here that love the concert toms. Theres a lot of guys that love closed toms. You do what you want with your drums. If concert toms were so cool, then how come they build more closed toms? Just sayin.......

Thanks, Poppy.
I bought this kit from our organ player. He inherited them from jay, another drummer friend of ours. This is how jay had his toms. He ordered 4 concert toms to go with his kit and then took the bottom heads and lugs off of the regular toms. The kit came with all the tom rims and lugs and tension rods, but no front bass drum hoops. The 20" bass drums sound terrible to me. I am in the process of buying some wood hoops for the front of these. The toms sound great to me though. I recently bought a 24" shell and 3 more concert tom shells, all silver sparkle. Some day I will restore those and add them to this kit. Why? because Im crazy, that why!!! LoLoLoLo
