A couple more of my MIJ kits. My Baxter in nicely aged WMP, and 'Tiger Pearl' Star sets. I still need to do a thorough cleaning, put on new heads, etc, for both kits. Both will make fun gigging sets.

I have not heard of root beer swirl before ?

..I have heard of "root beer strata"

(still not sure what maker uses that name) and then there is "tiger eye pearl"

And I do have some examples of those and I really like that finish

That being said neither root beer strata or tiger eye pearl have any silver or copper in them

they are normally just alternating shades of lighter to darker amber or sort of a caramel color

The kit remarked about above, is some odd and equally beautiful variation

So far I have seen two kits (one pictured)

and an orphaned bass drum in this finish

All of those drums were wearing Zim Gar badges

My 1966 Stewart set. I play them frequently on my Jazz gigs.

I had a bunch of orphans lying around and some leftover gold satin flame wrap. An hour later i took these pictures.

when I responded to the local (South Boston) Craig's list

These re-wrapped shells were advertised as being Tama

I could see they were Ludwig Rockers

The wrap job is decent for the price I paid 60.00

for that I got a bass drum shell and three toms

Hoops but no heads and lugs on only one side of each drum

but the seller dug out a bag with most of the missing hardware

one mistake was whoever it was that re wrapped the drums

failed to place the overlap seam under a lug set

But that aside the new wraps were in pretty good shape

and the drums had never been fully reassembled.

I got back to my shop and unloaded the shells

But I left the bag of hardware in the back seat with a bunch of other stuff

a few weeks later, some person or persons decided to steal my battered old 1997 Honda wagon.

The car was gone without a trace and so was my rocker hardware

eight months later the car was recovered ..and while it was totally trashed

The rocker hardware was right where I left it

the second pic shows the re-assembled kit

I decided not to punch through the wrap

in order to reinstall the diamond mount receiver

I realize these are U.S.A. made but

Drumfx's GSF wraps inspired me to share I can delete if anyone objects

also speaking of orphans ..while the rockers were born together

the blue oyster kit next to them was completely orphan assembled

The leftover wrap for the asian kit was originally for this Gretsch 50's kit.

i came across these fantastic looking shells yesterday, and i couldn't pass it up...Love that finish.

That's a crazy cool finish!
