If the amount of rain dumped by the recent southern California storm isn't depressing enough, I just added up the cost of my Rogers 12x15 tenor drum to floor tom conversion. What was I thinking!! DOH
What started out as an obsession to build a 15" floor tom ended up with a price tag that floored me! I've no doubt many of you have done the same thing: you purchase the shell for a reasonable price and then proceed to secure all the other parts required to finish the project, never really paying attention to the actual cost.
After telling my girlfriend that my floor tom was complete, she asked a very simply question; "how much did it cost you?". Well, I honestly didn't know, as parts were purchased separately. So, I just gathered all the separate prices and here's the bottom truth to my obsession:
12x15 Rogers tenor tom shell, with hardware... $100.00
Blue Glitter wrap installation/shipping from PDC... 193.00
Set of 3 Fullerton cast Knobbies... 135.50
Set of 3 20" floor tom legs... 69.99
Set of 16 Dayton era lugs... 52.00
VG+ 15" Rogers A-1 coated head... 39.00
Set of 16 Dayton era tension rods... 15.99
NOS 15" Rogers E-1 coated head... 13.46
Rogers-style logo nails... 3.49
Total shipping charges... 73.15
And the GRAND TOTAL IS... $695.58
Next, I just ordered a Tuxedo Bag... 49.98
Making a FINAL GRAND TOTAL of... $745.56
Am I pleased and happy with the final results? You bet!! The drum is beautiful! Pictures to follow when we get some sun!
So, there you have it. The cost of my obsession! I console myself knowing that I may not be alone on this. Please tell me I'm not! LoLoLoLo
