The finish is called Kristall (in the German 1963 Sonor catalog). Originally, it has been silver and black stripes. With age, it fades like this, resulting in a greenish-gold look.My guess is that this kit is not a 3 ply. The tom mount suggests to me that it is a later design, but Oddball will now when he sees this. This link may be helpful in dating the kit.I have a ca 1958 3-ply early teardrop kit in this finish. I've had people comment on it saying that this is the most beautiful drum kit they've ever seen. The finish looks much better IRL than in my lousy picture./Magnus
Yup. I see the mount and the long neck lugs (64/65) so good chance six ply. However there are many cases of people getting six ply kits with a three ply bass and second hand buyers calling it a three ply bass with six ply toms,....Confusing but it happens. Date stamp helps.
The three ply were made in steam ovens and six ply made in oil heated ovens and that factory change happened same timing.
65 was the badge change and six ply everything top line.
