Have these on my 13" and 16" toms. Small beavertail lugs. No felt wrap on the springs. Anyone know what the purpose was?
Thanks!

Those are extra...
No badges/vent holes on Slingerland toms till upper midish sixties.
Looks to be extra holes for a different lug at some time?
No sign that either one have ever had anything but old style sm bt lugs. Guess it's just another Slingy puzzle.
Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Is that the case at every lug site?
And, are those filled in holes at the bottom of the pic on the right?
They look to be in the same pattern?
Yes the same on both drums. The reso sides have been filled but are the same. After final finish they will be drilled back out.

Then, not a Slingy puzzle... a previous owner puzzle
Looks like a tube lug converted to cast lugs. I don`t see a factory mounting one fastener on the ring and the other off of it. That is sh*tty math any way you look at it if they did. The smaller holes look original !i
Left over tube lug shells at the factory, early beaver tail build maybe?
If it helps any the 13,16 and 20 with curious holes at the below thread where all painted over gold sparkle.

Actually, that is exactly how RK shells with the wide re-rings were done.
One on and one off the re-ring...
The holes with the washer imprints are the original holes.
You will sometimes find washers with a small part of the edge removed to fit past the inside edge of the re-ring.

Do you remember if the small holes went through the painted over wrap on the shells? You can measure the spacing of the small holes and see if they match any tube lugs maybe? Strange indeed. Maybe someone had a idea/plan for those shells then scrapped the idea thus the small holes never being used? Being some 70 years young anything is possible. They are in good hands now that's all that really matters!!;)
