Slingerland Krupa kit? Last viewed: 9 hours ago

Loading...

i was looking at a kit on CL advertised as a 50's Slingerland Gene Krupa kit. The badges are chicago, and i was excited, thinking i found a nice set of radio kings. i asked for interior pics of the shell, and the interior was clearly maple, not mahogony. i can't figure out what these are by looking at the guide; can anyone offer any thoughts? thanks.

Hardware looks right for 50s, did he shoot a pic of the inside of the snare? The snare would have probably been 1ply maple.

he sent pics of the snare as well as floor tom and mounted tom. the snare, of course, was maple, but so were the floor and mounted toms. the pics are too large to attach here, but it's very clearly maple interior.

Hard to tell from the pics they aren't very clear, but the badge looks to be the Chicago black gold badge, the drum set you have depicted is what he would be playing krupa. http://www.vintagedrumguide.com/slingerland_drumsets_1955.html

i have other pics that are too large to post, but it is chicago badge with swirl on the "S". But, like i said, the interiors are maple, not mahogony. How can that be?

perhaps i'm reading the vintagedrumguide wrong, but i thought slingerland didn't make the transition to maple interiors until 63? and these would be several years before that.

That was my understanding as well, but VM2k knows his Slingerlands better than I do. It could be an orphan kit as well, the toms should not have badges on them and could be from a later date. Ask for date stamps and a shot of the BD interior.

I would need more pics for a better evaluation,

but it could simply be older left over badges on newer shell, I would need to see the badge clearly, but the pic is showing maple interior,,

but the best thing is look at them yourself,

I sold a 73 krupa kit to a member here on the forum, you'll be blown away by how awesome they sound, don't sale the maple interiors short.
