Jim Ryan makes some re-mans that are very nice... his were like $24. I'll see if I can find a link. I bought three and he knocked off a couple bucks and saved me some on shipping.

Seemed a real good guy!

I have the machined version on my set and still have the slipping problem, mostly on the tom mounts, not the spurs.I do not want to use a pliers or hammer to tighten them.Any tricks from you Rogers folks? I do not see any cracks in the noses BTW.

I actually attach the swivo to the tom with them both off the bass drum to get more torque and then stick the hex rod into the bass mount and this helps some. Thanks all!

Thanks Tommyp. The best fix, albeit a little pricey for my budget right now. The bd spurs have the same issue, so i should get 4 if i'm getting. Thanks for the link. The math hurts, but its the price you pay to restore a kit going on 40 years. Better start saving my gig money and get a paper route...

Quick temp fix might be swap the tom collets with the BD collets until you get new ones. BD takes less tension to stay in place, and they are likely not as cracked / worn as the tom mounts.

Like everything that gets screwed on and off continually, they get gunked up take the threaded part off the drum and clean between the slits that go around the hex rod. use alcohol then use a small wire brush and clean off the threads look for flat threads and if you find some go to a machine shop and have them chase the threads. when all cleaned up use a small dab of Vaseline on a Q tip and lube the threads you should be fine for another 30 years.

I have a similar problem with my Rogers mounts. My fix was to make a shim (out of an aluminum pop can) that went about half way around the hex post. This has worked very well for me. (Note - The shim is not a set-up or tear down problem for me, because my drums stay up nearly all the time.)

Concerning Al Drew's collet noses, I have a real GRIPE about these! I have 3 of them and none of them work properly on my 3 collet brackets, which consist of a straight (tom mount), side mount and slightly off-center mounts. I kept thinking that maybe all my brackets were somehow defective. By "not working properly, I mean that the collet will not tighten (grip) around the Swivo hex shaft. I then tried original machined patent-pending noses, and guess what? The original nose will tighten the collet firmly against the hex shaft! My educated guess is that Al Drew's inside machining is micro-inches off, but enough to cause this problem. This is easily seen by how far down the collet the nose will thread. The original machined Pat-Pending nose will thread ****her down. Now, this may also be dependent on the collet bracket itself, but I have 3 brackets and any combination of my 3 Al Drew noses don't work! I've had to resort to purchasing original bracket/noses to have them work.

Tommyp, what do you think? Am I the only person having this issue?

I even received a nose from Al where the chrome peeled off in places. Al did send me a replacement. That replacement also had one bat handle that came off! Obviously a machining problem! Rather than get another replacement, I chose to put a dab of epoxy on the handle. It's been fine ever since!
