Thanks for confirming. As O-Lugs mentioned, it was a good job of removal, but why did they do this?

Man! Seeing that catalog picture sends me back in time! They might not have been everyone's cup of tea as far as Swivomatic fans are concerned, but having owned and used those MemriLoc-era drums extensively over the years, they performed like champs. Keep in mind, long-sustaining drums were NOT in style at that time, so the intrusive tubes and resonance-sapping quality wasn't a problem. I had black dots on all my toms, anyway! But I have to say that that picture demonstrates the real modern beauty of the MemriLoc hardware. The cymbal stands were perfect. I really didn't care for the Supreme pedals, but that's what I used for years. Once I got my first DW5000 with the baseplate, I was converted. I did have a problem with the snare stand -one of the "claws" on the basket arm, broke in half.
that 76-7 catalog was my peak Rogers to me; never owned any rogers But..
Others have said to offer a bit less due to the paint removal. What would concern me more, and the reason to offer a lower price, is how many of the cast collet noses are cracked. At a minimum, you'd be looking at replacing the four noses for the tom holder and tom brackets. The noses for the bass drum spurs may be OK, but you won't know until you see them. Check with Al Drew for his reproduction machined collet noses. This is still a drum set worth purchasing, even if you have to replace the collet noses for dependability!

Very nice set of top of the line drums.
I would buy them, and then spray paint the
interiors gray again.
Ya, they are nice drums and he'll take $500, but it's just not in the cards right now. I really only wanted them so I could have a 13,16,22 set-up. I probably would had just sold the 12, never really liked 12" toms. That's the only problem I have with the Premier kit. It sounds good, but I just prefer a 13" tom.
If that was a pearl or sparkle wrap, I'd love to have them for $500.

I truly doubt that the paint was removed by a previous owner, unless somewhere along the line another previous owner subsequently painted the interiors black for instance.
The one picture looks too clean for paint removal, especially around the re-rings. I suggest that the set was ordered from the factory w/o interior paint. Rogers would do that if that is what a customer requested, and there are examples of Rogers kits like that, particularly with endorser kits.
We won't know unless JR gets a better picture of the interiors. But it sounds like that may not happen, alas.
Ya, he'll take $450, but as it stands right now, I'm unable to buy them unless I sell my Premier kit. I have it on CL for $450 with no bites.
Damn. Sounds like he really wants to sell them. I don't want to sound harsh, Johnny, but what is the point of entering into this folly if you aren't prepared to follow through? meh....maybe it's for the best.
I highly, highly doubt that Premier kit is going to sell anytime soon. I'm sure it sounds good and all, but.....huh-uh....That one is going to take some time to get rid of, in my opinion....I hope I'm wrong!
