He/she agreed to pay your shipping when the bid was placed. Ship it out and let the cards fall where they may. It's generally a bad practice to allow an unethical individual's decision drive you. Say what you mean and stick by what you know is right.

This is a tough one and it is becoming a problem I have been on both ends of the stick ,IMO if the parts fit in a flat rate box then by all means I think it only fair to charge the least for shipping as they are free and the mail carriers will pick them up at your home.. if they are more bulky then you have to charge what you have to charge...

I am tired of being ripped By some sellers who I buy 4 screws from and the shipping is 5.00 when they can be put in a padded envelope and sent priority for 1.86...

then there is gas and time so it is a delema and there is no clear cut solution..

seems to be a trend latley that alot of shippers are trying to make a few more bucks from the sales by adding higher shipping if this continues then there will be no bargains to get anymore ..my 3 cents.

Surely the winner could have pre-messaged you prior to winning parts to ask this question,,,that is what i do..

Surely if he has won, then that is the agreement finished and the goods are then bought as displayed/advertised unless you as the seller feel like doing the person a favour, but this is in fact not your obligation or a legal right!

If the buyer does then feel agrieved and give you bad feedback they can be reported to Ebay for mis-use and corrupting feedback status...remember to keep any communiction from buyer to seller to fallback on just in case !

Good luck and hope this helps Mikey

Unfortunately he doesn't have to mention the shipping issue with feedback. Something like "poor communication" or "misleading description" can be just as bad for you. Resend the invoice and tell him pay it or refuse and lose the parts. Send this revised invoice to ebay with complaint against the buyer if you can.

Part of the issue here seems to be tracking vs no tracking number. I would be willing to go for the cheaper non tracking postage if and only if I had a signed statement from the buyer taking all responsibility if the package doesn't arrive in perfect condition. This statement would include a stipulation that the buyer would leave perfect feedback even if the package goes missing. And of course the best way for that to happen is they leave perfect feedback before you send the package. :D

The difference in postage price is a kind of insurance. It costs more because it requires more labor along the way. You need to make it clear to them that they give something up to achieve the saving. :2Cents:

I certainly see this request from the buyer as a "request" and opening of negotiations, not a "demand". You can freely choose to do whatever you want given the original contract. I believe that if you have everything in "writing" (that is, emails) then any bad feedback will be removed by eBay at your request because it is the seller who violated the terms of the original contract. But you may have to push eBay on it.

Disclaimer: I've never had to ask eBay to remove feedback which is untruthful or otherwise violates the terms of use. But there is a mechanism for making it happen.

Was the $9.60 the actual mailing cost or had you added in an additional "handling" charge (you can do that in ebay)? If it was the actual cost of 1st class mail with tracking, but he would rather have the item mailed in a flat rate box for $4.95 then I would do what he asks...not costing you anything. If you do the postage through ebay "Shipping" the price includes a Delivery Confirmation number which can be tracked.

You cannot send ANYTHING Priority for $1.86...........

$4.95 is the least,I believe.........

Plus Confirmation is $0.75

If you add $1-2 for bubble wrap/tape/popcorn/time to stand in line/fill out invoices etc, thats a deal for the person buying from you......

Thats almost $8 already............

I hate using padded envelopes for anything............I always think the item is going to get broken.

I'd rather use a strong box, lined again with strong cardboard inside, with the item bubble wrapped and surrounded by biodegradable packing popcorn.

I hear you Blair.

But, I think if I want a small inexpensive item that can't get broken easily I'd like it to be sent in a padded envelop - I've had it done a number of time with no problem whatsoever.......so far anyway.

I don't mind paying a fare shipping price and I know about the lineups you have down there and the Customs document at the post offices so a few bucks here and there for handling is always fare....to get the needed item shipped properly.

What freaking ticks me off is what I complained about in the thread just before yours Blair. UPS & BROKERAGE CHARGES that area applied at the boarder!

Sorry....for jumpin in with it but it does kind of relate to shipping & handling - right?

On eBay - I have on occasion discussed shipping charges with the seller beforehand and have saved some money by doing that. But I have no problem at all paying a fare price and that might include something extra because a seller will want to take that extra bit of care to package the item properly.
