Paiste 16" cymbal stamped with 10055?

Loading...

Got a used drum kit and it came with an older looking cymbal. In small letters, ( I had to really squint to see them), it is marked and worn but it says "Paiste 10055". No big splash markings like you see on today's cymbals...just a quiet little stamp.

Does that number mean anything? It sounds very good, but it is now an extra cymbal which I am trying to decide if I should sell or keep.

This is likely a crash. What is the weight? Is it thin or thick, heavy or light, medium, that sort of info helps immensely.

A photo of the cymbal and stamp would help with the ID.

It is definitely a crash based on the sound. I can't say if it is heavy or medium. I have a paper thin crash which it is thicker than but I can't say how much more. There is also another number at the end of the serial but can't make it out. One of the groove lines actually goes through the number like it was printed around it intentially.

I will try to get a better photo. Camera phone isn't exactly getting it on film.

The stamp reads PAiSTe (The "e" is lower case) The letters "A" and the "T" are slightly higher and the S is slightly lower in the way the placement is in the word.

Number underneath reads: 100559 or 100550.

It's hard to make out the last numeral so it is either 9 or 0.

Thanks, I just found this too:

http://www.cymbalholic.com/forums/showthread.php?9713-How-do-you-decifer-Paiste-serial-numbers

If this guy is right, then since I have the 6 digit serial #, a stylized embossed stamp, and my serial starts with a "1", it is a 1991 cymbal.

Found this too...perhaps it is a 1981 then. Either way, it's not really vintage like from the 60's or thereabouts like I hoped.

Hello ,

Thank you for your question regarding your cymbal's age. If your cymbal has

a 6 digit serial number then the first number will give you a very rough

estimate on it's age. For example if the first number begins with a 7,

(793558) then your cymbal could have been manufactured in 1967, 1977, or

1987.

If your cymbal has an 8 digit serial #, the first two numbers indicate the

year it was manufactured. For example, if the serial # on your cymbal is

99642218, then your cymbal was manufactured in 1999.

We changed our serial number process in the late 80's from 6 digits to 8

digits.Thanks for the question.

This a tough one because there is no series ink logo. Paiste serial numbers are applied to cymbals at the 06:00 position. Paiste used 6 digit serial numbers until 1996 and than they changed to 8 digits. The up/down pAisTe embossed above the serial number was used from early 1990 thru today. The lathing looks like a 1990's 2002 series B8 bronze. That's my best guess. If you find any red ink on the bottom or top that should confirm it.

What? First of all Paiste did not apply serial numbers until 1971!

Any Paiste from late 1980 has PAISTE above the 6 digit serial number.

Here's a photo of my Red label 1989 2002. If it was from 1979 as suggested from the Paiste America info it would have a black ink label.
