No, it was both.I think that a 2900 gram 22" K is so heavy that it loses most of what makes K's so special. At that weight, they have a ton of stick... ...but so does any 2900 gram 22.You also lose most of the complex wash that K's are known for.To me, a heavy K doesn't sound better than any other heavy cymbal. Thanks,Matt
I think that may also depend on the specific cymbal. The late lamented Drummer's World in New York City had a 22" heavy old K for sale somewhere between 2003 to 2005 or there about. I didn't identify the weight at the time but it was at least as heavy as my 22" Bosphorus Ferit Turk which weighs 2941g. I was seriously considering it. Its sounded fantastic and was in excellent shape, very clean, no grunge, but with a dark patina for only ...$900. Yeah, while the prices were a lot lower back then, it was still a great price. It had a complex trashy sound but I wanted something thinner and passed on it. I was back two weeks later to pick up some sticks and the owner, Barry, told me that Stanton Moore had just picked it up. It clearly went to a good home. While I understand what you are saying, I think this one had a wonderfully complex sound regardless of its heavier weight. And while perhaps you could have gotten even more out of it by applying your talents, it sounded so good as is I personally would not have wanted to risk it.
