Just picked up a 70s Ludwig set and the wrap has shrunk leaving about a 1 inch gap where the old cement shows and I've tried both Goo-Gone and Goof-Off to no avail - should I try heating it up with a hair dryer next? I've read many posts on this already but can't seem to find a simple answer. Thanks.
Old dried contact cement on shell driving me nuts...

I have the same issue, so I hope someone can offer some good guidance.
There is no simple answer-most of the solvents that melt old glue also melt old wrap. I used Mostenbocker #4 for very old paint and it lifted it, but it was very labor intensive. Heat may separate the existing wrap from the drum.
Teverson is right about that. If you get the contact cement off, what will you do with the 1" gap?

There is still about a 2 inch overlap so once I get the old, dried dark brown cement off I will re-glue it.

Soak a cloth in WD-40 and start rubbing. Once the contact cement starts to loosen up, carefully scrape off the glue with a razor blade. Do not spray WD-40 directly on the drum, if it gets under the seam it will lift.

Can you attach a photo of this? I am a little confused by the "1 inch gap" and "2 inch overlap" comments. Do you just have a lifted seam?

Thank you!

I'll get pix up ASAP but it appears that the wrap shrank a bit and pulled back and lifted leaving some old glue exposed that I'm trying to get rid of. Once I do there is still enough overlap left to re-glue it and not leave a gap.

I am sure a photo will clear that up.
