No Name Cymbal Last viewed: 1 week ago

I got this cymbal on eBay today (for cheap) It's described as a light 16" with a good sound, but there are no maker's markings on it anywhere. Does anybody want to take a guess as to what this might be? More importantly is it a B20 cymbal or brass, any guess?

Cheers.

I noticed the seller had some similar no name 13" Hi Hats going cheap too so I snagged them too and got a break on the price of shipping. The Hi Hats and Crash came to about 50 bucks after shipping, not too bad. It's a shot in the dark. Would anybody like to guess if these are B20 or brass?

Yeah - would be very surprised if entry level cymbals were made out of B20. If so - paradigm shift here.

I think most know what these are based on looks - and have long wondered what they were myself.

Cymbal expert chime in would be great.

It may help to add a video of these.....

or perhaps they can watch mine - which I am pretty sure are the same thing. Indeed let me know if they are not the same as these.

I had a great day! Instead of sleeping in and wasting the day, I got up at 8 and I had all my slacking done by noon!

I believe these Hi Hats to be the same. They actually don't sound half bad either. They have quite a quick, explosive sound that I can dig. I'm very interested in this 16" now. If it sounds like a bigger version of these trashy sounding Hi Hats then I'll be happy enough. I like that sound as my right-side crash. I'd usually never play a 16", but I'm open to trying new things, that's part of the fun of it. I'll whack a few sound files of these things up online so you can compare. The seller did say they were super thin. These things never made it over to these shores, don't know how common they are across the pond. Here we play pewter dishes and trash can lids. That's our Zildjians.

The no name 13" looks to be rotocast to me. Also it seems to look more like B-20.

I sure hope you're right Drumaholic. I will let you know when I get them. Thanks.

Well if they were in front of me, I could make a better call, as sometimes photos can change perception. My first inclination is that they are B20 and the lathing doesn't look like low level either. The lathing and bell shape reminds me of some older UFIP cymbals, like 70s-80s Bravo line. Those were vertical cast from a pour. This was before UFIP started rotocasting cymbals around 1990, when Zanchi closed up shop and brought over the centifuge technology.

That being said, it could totally throw me and they be made of nickel silver or something else shiny and cheap. But somehow, they just don't look cheap, at least in pictures. Definitely not a B8.

Jeff, you sure know your UFiPs. I do hope you're right. I took a chance on these just because, as you and also Drumaholic pointed out, they do have a touch of the UFiPs about them. I'll let you know as soon as I lay my sticks on them. I'm thinking Ajaha or one of UFiP's stencil offerings. Thanks for you input. Watch this space. D' Drummer

I'm gonna stick my neck out here and say B20, B20 all the way baby! I'd put my reputation on it. :D

They should be here soon and I just can't help it, I'm too excited to know what these are. :)
