New here, looking for some info on drum values Last viewed: 12 hours ago

Looking at completed auctions on eBay, I'm a little surprised how low comparable cymbals are selling for. I know it's a buyer's market with the current economy and all, but WOW. (I think it's time for me to do some more cymbal shopping!)Assuming your cymbals are A's:

21" Zildjian A ride cymbals from the 70s seem to be selling in the $90-100 range including shipping, unless it's a specific (recent) model like the Sweet Ride that buyers are looking for.
Zildjian A hi-hats seem to be going for roughly $125 shipped.
Various 16" Zildjian A crashes seem to be going for about $85 shipped.
10" Zildjian A splashes have been selling in the neighborhood of $60 shipped.
If your cymbals are hand-hammered K's, they'll be worth more than the numbers above. As for stands and hardware, values can vary WIDELY depending on model specifics and condition. For example, there are completed auctions for 1970s Slingerland hi-hat stands ranging from roughly $20 to $120. You'll need better pics of the stands before we can venture a guess. (And it's still a guess -- auction prices for vintage drum gear can be a crap shoot.)To guess at a value for the 14" tom, we'll need to know its depth. If it's fairly shallow like 10", it probably won't fetch all that much -- maybe $100 shipped at the high end of the range. If it's deeper, preferably around 14", it'll be more valuable.

That's interesting info, it makes me think it might not be worth the hassle of parting it out. I searched for the same 21" ride on Ebay and found it between $235 and $255 so that gave me some hope on the cymbals, but if they're really going that cheap I might have to re-think it. Here's the current auctions but they're both the same seller if they're not selling for that much I guess it doesn't really matter. http://shop.ebay.com/?_from=R40&_trksid=p3907.m570.l1313&_nkw=zildjian+21+ride+70s&_sacat=See-All-Categories

I also wasn't aware of the added value for depth, the 14 is only 10" so maybe that's not worth selling seperately.

Sorry for all the questions, I'm used to buying and selling motorcycles and parts online where the prices are very easy to figure out, this is tough because it's hard to figure out what to ask. I put the entire set up on Craigslist for $1,200 last week and did get some responses so maybe I should just go that way, or maybe Ebay would make it easier because I wouldn't have to set a price.

By the way, it's not vintage but is a 1986 Paiste 2000 18" crash any good? It's the only odd piece that I have and was just curious.

They're listed for $235 and $255, but nobody's buying. If you look at the far left column on eBay, you'll see "Show Only: Completed Listings". By looking at listings that have run their course, you can get an idea what the market will bear for an item. Items that sold will have a little "Sold" label and their price will be shown in green. Prices are shown in red for items that didn't sell. Figure out the middle ground where red and green listings seem to mix and that's roughly what an item's worth.

One other thing to be aware of (as if there weren't enough things already): You will likely see some cymbals that sold for an abnormally low price. If you look at the details of these listings, you'll probably find that they're cracked or otherwise damaged.

There isn't necessarily a premium for depth except that I was thinking "floor tom" and those are typically deep drums. 14" and 16" floor toms are typically square sized -- their diameter matches their depth. I've got a compact Tama Stagestar kit whose 14" floor tom is 12" deep, but that's about the shallowest "normal" floor tom you'll see.

Nothing to be sorry for. If I was trying to sell motorcycle parts, I'd be pretty much in the same boat you're in right now. It's really just a matter of familiarity.

eBay's not a bad idea for the cymbals and hardware. It'll provide a huge audience of buyers and those items are typically pretty cheap to ship. If you're in a major metro area and can tolerate the possibility that a bunch of wackos might contact you, Craigslist could work well for selling your drums since the cost of shipping is pretty large compared to the cost of the item.

I'll have to leave that one for someone else to answer. I'm not too familiar with the different Paiste lines.

Racer,

There is no need to be sorry for asking questions. That is what this Forum is for. If you try posting the cymbals in the vintage cymbal section with pics, you will probably get more info regarding them. Just some friendly advice!!

Cheers
