My life with a Slingerland Rolling Bomber

Loading...

Here are the tom mounts. I replaced the wing nuts.

Also a picture of the tom legs. There is a cymbal stand mount on the floor tom.

Plus 2 hoop mounted cymbal holders. My set came with a wooden pedal but I think it may be much older than the Bombers. There is also a Slingerland pedal that came with it.

Oops. here they are.

I'm pretty certain the paint is original and I agree with Dave- dont re-paint them. They are after all, War drums. :-) They should look a bit battle scarred!

Bill,

Thanks for the pics, lovely. I love all the hardware.

I would suspect your pedal is the same age as the bombers, can you identify a maker at all?? Only wat time restrictions meant they had to create wooden pedals, not before or after unless it was a home made job.

Still nice to have with your set.

Mark,

If you find another wmp bass drum muffler you know who to call :-))

The pedal has no markings at all. The beater head is a hand carved wood ball with canvas sewed over it like a baseball. It still works and obviously was used a lot to wear through the canvas. The spring is on the other side. I will get a picture.

Is this the original paint job?I have the same drum but mine has a lot of scratches.

No, they have been re-finished with what seems to be a very good lacquer. I also think that the bearing edges have been checked.

The previous owner was meticulous ;-)

Okay! PICTURES!!!

I had read this before, last fall, and indeed was waiting for the pix. I do know the history of the war time kits... everything that could be, made of wood since metal bits for drums didn't quite make the rationing grade.

Wonderful! Thanks for sharing.

pask74Your drums are beautiful, congrats and welcome to the Bomber club.I also have a set but play the toms.Bill ArmstrongBill, your finish "IS NOT" original. slingerland never produced bombers with a plain white shell.I've only ever seen the following colors :-Black/Silver/BlackBlue/Gold/Blue.Brown/Gold/BrownBlue/Gold/BlueWMP.An interesting thing to note, no matter what color the bomber set was, they ALL came with wmp inlay on the hoops.Dave

Thanks for the info!

Bill,Thanks, do you know that sllingerland had wooden cymbal arms as well that you could have covered in the same wrap as you drums !! I've only seen them in pictures never in person. Also never seen any bomber wooden snare stands or bass drum pedals. All the bomber documentation I have shots the sets with regular metal stands/pedals.If you or anyone knows differnt lets see em'.Dave

The seller I got my Bombers from has wooden kick pedal/hi-hat stand. Not sure they were from the same kit, though.
