once the brass ceases to glitter, and the drum looses its luster, and the stage remains dark, all you have left is the timbre of family.
To rechrome that will cost at least a couple of hundred.
And because it's aluminum ,you take your chances on it lasting.
You might be better off having it stripped and polished.
I had a small Fibes snare butt plate about 2 or 3 inches in width that I brought in to have recdone and it was a $60 bucks estimate.
I do believe he said it is brass. But either way I would leave it.

It is brass indeed.
Brass I would consider a rechrome.
Chroming brass is a no brainer.
Why is it a no brainer?
Brass plates easily.
Aluminum has big issues.
Look at all the older supras out there that are pitted and flaking.
That's the reason even though that snare is 40 or 50 years old,it still maintains a near perfect finish.
It still ain't cheap to do though.
