Actually I added it to the website list just now, so it is up to date.

If you're still keeping up with this thread and updating your site, I'm the new owner of a 9x13 Classic with B/O pointy badge no. 891816, paper tag no. 56717 (handwritten).

These odd labels Ludwig used for a short time are really an anomaly! Sure would like to find out WHY they were used! As another point of reference, I personally saw a 16x16 floor tom a few weeks ago, with serial number 819670 and an internal paper tag with model 950 and date stamped APR 19, 1971. My personal 1970 Super Classic kit has date stamps on the snare, bass and 9x13 rack tom, but the floor tom is a bit older, with SN 900260 and paper tag 60717. So, sometime between April and June, 1971, the switch was made to these odd date tags!

Thanks. I am still gathering information about date codes. I have not yet figured them out yet. In the words of Fox Mulder, "The truth is out there."

Paper labels appear to have been introduced in about April 1971. I have record of main line drums with paper labels and traditional date stamps for every month from April through December, 1971. For Ludwig Standards, I have record of drums with paper labels and traditional date stamps for every month in 1971 from April through August and also November. Also I have one report from January 1972.

Paper labels were also used with Date Codes, but since we still do not know exactly when this occurred, I cannot say if these appear before April 1971 or after.

Hi Folks: also trying to solve a dating mystery with a paper label. Purchased this used Ludwig Thermgloss Kit in the late 90’s.

18” BD Blue Olive Rounded Badge #3010862

14” FT Blue Olive Pointed Tip Badge #2094981

10” ST Blue Olive Pointed Tip Badge #2094902

8” ST Blue Olive Pointed Tip Badge #2091911

Also the mysterious 13” Maple Piccolo Snare whitch I believe is a non Ludwig strainer, a missing BO Badge and a Paper Label with a date marking # 58717 and Model # K-338, the lugs are Part #2225. The previous owner inserted a trigger where the Badge venthole was. Any feedback on the timelines/dates would be appreciated. Many thanks
